93 civic DX/D16 swap - what Civic ECUs are compatible?
I have a 93 civic DX hatchback that came with a 1.5l engine from the factory but was replaced a year ago with a 1.6l. I think I have an intermintant short in the ecu. Can I replace it with one from any style 92-96 civic? I was going to either borrow one or try to find one at the local salvage yards. Thanks
RonJ, It started when it broke down a few months ago. I was riding down the road and it just quit. At that time, after getting it home and it starting back up, I was trying to find a loose connection under the hood. I tapped slightly on the dis. housing while the engine was running and it died. I removed dis. and tried to re-insulate the wires inside that had the casings cracked and dry rotted. After that I started having interminant trouble with starting. I could turn the key on but the pump would not prim every time. cycling the key always seemed to get it going. This past week it died again. Same trouble as when the dis shorted out. when you turn the key on, the pump would not come on. I removed the relay and tried to resolder it and when I started it up for a test drive, it skipped, sputtered, and wouldn't run but 45mph. it would clear, then back to skippings, then clear. I stopped at a neighbors home for about 20 minutes and when I started back home it run perfect. I am not 100% sure my trouble is the ecu, distributor, or maybe still something wiring/relay related? The only thing I knew to do was start searching for these swap parts. Any ideas??? I also cleaned/checked the ground at thermostat! Thanks everyone
Also I found last night that my check engine light had been removed. I replaced it with one from seat belt and it was burning. retrieved code 1-long, 9-shorts pulses. I removed the backup fuse but when I put it back I still had same code. It may be somethind due to the engine swap and one of the wires not hooked up. I drove it about a mile and back (run fine) and that was still the only code I could get.

Not sure how to do that. I will try to look it up to learn how. Currently have the dash out to resolder the terminals due to erratic spedo. It starts with 1 long flash and 9 very short ones. I took that to be 19 which is something to do with the transmission I think. Not sure why it didn't go away after resetting it unless it is getting that constant from the transmission. Thank again.
The code could be 19 or 10 and 9. A video would help to distinguish if you're not sure.
Does your car have an auto or manual transmission? What's the ECU code on the label?

I think I may still be limited to not posting attachments since I am a new user. I don't see the list to add a video. I have it on my phone and could email/text. I will keep looking. When the pump doesn't prime, the starter works fine but the #2 relay never clicks. That is just one of the 2 sets of points on the main relay. The ecu is a po6 And the engine has D16z6 and 3624960 stamped on it

Cleaned the ground terminal yesterday. Drove about 5 miles this am. Started up and pump done fine. After sitting about 10 minutes, first start fails, no fuel pump activity. Second try, fired right up.
Buy a used one that comes with a warranty that guarantees that the ECU works and that, if it doesn't, it can be returned.

one more update to my saga!!After trying to get it to crank, I got a friend to pull me home. About 2 miles into my trip behind a pickup with a chain, I noticed the check engine light which had been burning steady with the jumper still installed in the plug, it started blinking the 10, 9 code again. I was being pulled with ignition on to operate wipers. As soon as the change in the check engine light happened I turned the ignition switch and it started right up! We disconnected the chain and I drove it the remaining 3 miles home. 2-3 times during this drive the cel would turn solid and the fuel pump relay would click off causing it the skip and sputter but never completely killing the engine. Sorry about posting so much but I want everyone to have all the info I can give. RonJ, I am currently looking for the proper ecu to try. I also removed it while it was down and looked at the circuit board but didn't see any obvious bad spots. thanks again for all the help. this is my work car (100 mile trip) and this car gets a lot better mpg than my 01 Silverado.
when it dies, does the distrubitor feel very hot? if you let it sit for ~20 minutes, will it run again? pull and test/have tested your coil and icm.
I got home to try my pc to post video but it wont let me post it or links due to my trial status. I have the video on you tube. My channel is Michael Greene and email is mgreene410@gmail.com you should be able to find it with that. kinda new to you tube also so I'm not sure if there is any other info for my page you may need to find it

We don't yet know whether code 19 or codes 10 and 9 are thrown. You'll need to post a video to sort this out.
