88 CRX SI - multiple electrical issues
Ok so I just picked up this little 88 CRX SI. It needs a TON of work and I would love some advice on the issues I'm having. I know there is a search function but with ALL the issues I'm having and other stuff I'm looking for help with. I just thought I would post up and get all the advice I can.
Start with the problems:
No dash lights
No lights on the AC Controls
The Temp gauge doesn't work
The Speedo doesn't work
When you Turn on one blinker BOTH of the indicator light in the and the High Beam Light in the GAUGE CLUSTER blink.
The Sunroof doesn't work
The Fuel Gauge works but if you turn on the Head Lights the Fuel Gauge goes up to the Full mark
All the Fuses are good and other than all this the motor runs fine with a small miss.
Other Problems:
It has a D16Z6 in it but was never converted to OBD1 or had the V-Tec harness intergraded into the car.
it needs EVERY part of the Susp replaced and I would love to take this chance to do some REAL upgrades. I DO NOT want to do coil overs so can I have some advice on the best strut and spring combo to run? I'm looking for a 2.25 to 2.50 drop.
Last one, Someone has thrown a DC Sport muffler off some other civic on the car. It along with the piping is leaking and just sounds like crap. I want a REAL EXHAUST!!! Not some sideways sitting muffler, A real setup that will add HP and give the car a nice aggressive tone. I DO NOT want a raspy sound or ANYTHING high pitched.
Im really excited about this little car and I really hope one day its really something to be proud of.

Any and all help would really mean the world.

No dash lights- check the back of the cluster to make sure its plugged in.
No lights on the AC Controls- could be bulbs. Does the AC work?
The Temp gauge doesn't work- check that its plugged in on the motor. ECT is under the distributor.
The Speedo doesn't work- check back of cluster again and that it is plugged into the transmission. Should be on passenger side near firewall.
When you Turn on one blinker BOTH of the indicator light in the and the High Beam Light in the GAUGE CLUSTER blink.- try to reset the ECU by unplugging the battery for 30 seconds. This could be a short in the lights. I had this issue for a day when I replaced my tail lights. Guess I wired something goofy.
The Sunroof doesn't work- you'll have to trace the wires on this one. I have no idea.
The Fuel Gauge works but if you turn on the Head Lights the Fuel Gauge goes up to the Full mark- I think this car has too many electrical issues. You probably want to completely redo the harness. I am assuming it is a hacked up swap.
All the Fuses are good and other than all this the motor runs fine with a small miss. - check the timing for the miss. Check spark plugs too. Could be gapped wrong.
Other Problems:
It has a D16Z6 in it but was never converted to OBD1 or had the V-Tec harness intergraded into the car.- this is what I mean. Bad swap. Needs to be redone. What ECU does it run on? Definitely needs a p28 or a chipped ECU to run the Z6. I'd go with the stock ECU though.

I DO NOT want to do coil overs so can I have some advice on the best strut and spring combo to run? I'm looking for a 2.25 to 2.50 drop.- Koni and ground control. Best there is. If you want to slam it, Skunk2 is where it's at. Probably cheaper. That's a large drop. It will probably be a lot of money to drop it if you go with quality parts.

I DO NOT want a raspy sound or ANYTHING high pitched. -you drive a 1.6L 4 cylinder from the 80s. This is impossible. I guess the Yonaka exhaust is good for the price. You won't see large HP increases through exhaust alone. The high pitched will be there regardless. 1000hp Hondas still have a high pitched drone at 6000rpm. The yonaka is the bottle of the exhaust world, price wise, about $250 I think. Thermal R&D is amazing though. If you've got $500-600.
