Icon2 tranny pricing 05 accord v6 approx 113K

Hi All,

I am hoping you guys might be able to help. How much should a tranny cost from a honda dealer? I was quoted $6K, which I thought was outragous even for a new tranny since honda doesnt rebuild or put in remanufactured ones. I ran the price by my brother and even he thought it was high. Has anyone experienced tranny failure w/my car specs too? If so, what type of recourse did you take? I tried unsuccessfully to get Honda to pay for most of the cost. They were willing to pay for half of it(3k), which is still way too much since my car is an 05 and isnt worth getting fixed for that price.

FYI-its out of warranty, it has approx. 113K. Tranny failed not too long ago.

It's a dealership . 3 k is not bad. Another option is to take it to a private shop or do it yourself. What your paying for is the warranty . Cause if you let honda do it . Go cross country and it breaks you can bring it in for warranty. As to if you were to take it to a private shop you would have to tow it back that's if they warranty it .

My 03 has 113k miles also. If the transmission went out I would get another one. It's definitely worth $3,000 if I can get another 100k miles out of it. My car is still in good shape. Did you have the extended warranty? If so, I would try to get them to lower the price more. I didn't have an extended warranty, and would have lost money on the deal if I had one.

If you pay the $3k and get it done, the car should last another 100k on that tranny. They still haven't "fixed" them. They just made them a little better. Personally I'd get a used one at a junkyard, for as cheap as possible and sell the car.

If you want a Honda, you have to get a MT if you want longevity. Honda makes the best manual transmissions, and the worse automatics. It's sad because they are excellent cars otherwise.
