mid engine ef2
hello. i decided to make thread about my civic here to get some useful advices.
first of all excuse me my english. i'm russian, and do not have any practice in your language.
my everyday car is jdm ek3 civic ferio with H23A PDE and T2W4 tranny on hondata. i've been used this car for about a four years and very like it. some time ago i remember my dream to get a mid engine car. initially i wanted to by a lotus elise or exige, but my earnings did not allow me to do it. then i remembered that in my garage was my old F20B DOHC engine and i always remembered thread here about the mid engine integra with H22A. after a while i found the front part of an jdm accord on sale and this was it
i bought front part of the JDM accord CF4. these accords are quite popular in russia so there are no problems with spare parts on it. friends presented to me all suspension parts so i had front frame with all suspension.
they all were about 300$

then i found appropriate car in neighbour town. it was 1991 jdm civic sedan with broken engine. i take it to my town with rigid towline. the distance beetween the towns was about 150 miles. it is near in our siberian scale
here are some photos

this car was about 450$
not perfect body

the hole in the cylinder block

but the interior is quite good

and most impotant aspect in russia all car documents was ok.
then i started to make my mid engine civic
at first stage i level the car in all dimensions on hand-made adjustable supports. there were 5 supports on each side

then i uninstalled the fuel tank and all rear suspension

after it i marked out the body with help of laser level and cutted the new engine bay

the accord frame needed to be cutted by that line to fit civic width

then i place the accord frame and the subframe in civic and set them up in relation with the civic body.

the next stage was bodyworks. i am not very expirienced welder. realy i started to weld a few monthes ago, so, please, do not laught at my welds
the rear body member

the front side of the engine bay

some time later

the left wheelhouse from outside

and from inside

i added the stiffners to the front part

after all was done i rubbed down metal and applied at first acid and then epoxy primer

and in final i applied metal joint seal and anti-chip primer

so, the bodywork was finished. i installed the rear suspension which was the front accord suspension. to hold rear wheels in straight direction i get the steering bar from an accord and weld it to the subframe. rear steering rods i bolted on to this bar. after it i moved the car to another garage for a some time.

then work was stopped for a some time. a do not have any free time now because i prepare to very important for me race competition. it will be on 1st of march and after it i will continue to make this civic. i will use factory accord mounts to install the engine and the tranny in the civic. the tranny is T2T4 from JDM accord sir-t. so far i do not recognize how to do parking brake, because of rear brake calipers are accord front ones and do not have parking brake mechanism. the design of cooling, fuel and electrical system i designed in my head and i dont think that them cause any signifiant problems.
i will be glad to see your opinions and suggestions.

i choose f20b because i have spare one for free.
moreover accord body members bolt to the subframe in the front and rear so it is difficult to make mistake in accord framework geometry.
Try a master cylinder attached to the brake lever intercepting the rear brake line. PLEASE don't forget a check valve to keep e-brake from overflowing and making the rear brakes non-functional. I have used AP of Girling in the past, all you need is to provide pressure to the rear calipers so they will hold. Good luck with the race, Keep us informed as to progress and please provide race results. I have been racing deprived for months and need a serious fix.

thanks guys. race was not perfect. i loose in 1/8 final and got 5-8 place. i think this is the good reason to switch to rwd
by the way at that race in rwd class russian car zaz with rear mounted subaru 2liter turbo engine was 6 seconds faster than best front engine rwd car.
today i assembled engine and now all is ready to install engine with tranny into civic. i am going to do that on next weekend.

uninstalled the front engine and installed the mid engine. all fits perfectly without any additional modifications.
the front engine

the front brake hose. previous owner was very risky person.

the installed engine

the view from the rear. installation of engine when you have good access from back is much easer than the installation into factory place.

f20b dohc engine with t2t4 tranny

the right accord euro-r factory mount

and the left accord euro-r factory mount

today installed clutch cylinder, alternator, starter and tail light harness. all fitted good.

shift mehanism will be reversed

tried to fit tranny wires and realised that they are too short. they ended near starter.

installed itbs. few years ago i tried to use them on my ek civic and achieved stable idle and good response to map. vacuum lines to maps are blue. vacuum for brakes and to iacv is provided by one more line from bottom of itbs. there is a lot of space in trunk to make large air reciever for itbs and make runners with reqired length.

made rear brake lines. the lenght of factory lines was enought and i just bent them to fit new place.

i also tried to connect civic obd2b engine harness and was failed. it differs too much from accord harness. so i ordered accord jdm engine harness. it is easier than modify civic one. the ecu is going to be placed in the rear of the car. i think it is easier to run a few wires to ecu than to run all engine harness to the front of the car.

this weekend i made coolant lines and installed clutch pedal with hydro clutch cylinder.
the installation of the hydro clutch pedal was dufficult because of lack of free space, but now the pedal is installed.
the holes for the cluth cylinder in the firewall (is it right? we call it something like a motor shield)
also installed the bigger vacuum booster from a civic ek vti with 15/16 master brake cylinder

the clutch cylinder is in the place

the pedals.the AT brake pedal was cutted.

I choose the fuel tank from a russian car Lada. it will be placed vertically near the firewall as in original lada

the coolant lines i made from the copper pipes. 28mm pipes was choosed for radiator lines and 18mm ones for the heater. the inlet lines will be in a heat insulation coat.

the lines are in the tunnel

LOL This is awesome Kova, backyard fabrication at its finest. Also you are doing great with your English, and yes that is a firewall. Please keep us updated. My family is originally from Armenia so we are basically neighbors
Is that gas tank from a Niva, lol I love those little jeeps!

this weekend made the gear shift mechanism

video how it works
installed the throtle cable which is made from a fuel tank door cable

and made the bracket for gear shift cables. my welding skill is not very high, but i train

the shift mechanism will be reversed

today i almost finished coolant lines. so when it will be finished i start to make an engine harness. hope the car will run for a couple of weeks.
