5/6,000 rpms- vtec
So is it bad for my engine if I take it up to 5-6,000 rpms a couple times a day or should I avoid this completely. I have a '12 Civic Si Sedan n That Vtec is FUN, I mean why put the Vtec in there if I can use it every day or so! Right.. Alright how bout no Vtec can I just rev higher to switch gears? As long as I put premium fuel n keep it w fresh oil changes every 3-4,000 miles. Thanks people!!
In all actuality it isn't bad for your engine. These motors were designed for the high revs. Hell, take her clear to 8000 rpm. Maybe if you could tone it down to 5 k ONCE a day or just a few times a week. It's just gonna burn a lot of fuel. You'll be fine. I take my 95 up to 6500 revs once a week, with 145k on the engine. She loves it.
the engine was designed for it so do it... although it is kinda of pointless sometimes to rev your engine that high in like stop and go traffic.
LMFAO!!! u guys r dumb. lol
ight so its not bad, n no ur right makes no sense at stop n go but every now n then on the highway, opening it up certainly is a blast tho. aint gonna lie.
thanks peoples

Nobody has asked him how many miles are on the car/engine. Revving an engine that high that hasn't been broken in is a bad thing. Seeing the car is a '12 I'm sure you have at least 5k on the engine (which would be my bare minimum before I started ******* it) so you should be good. Just don't sit there and bounce off the rev limiter or anything stupid like that.
Hit vtec everyday in my 2011 si when i had it, car saw 8000+rpm and at least one power shift daily. I've driven 12/13 si's and never once was able to tell vtec engaged, other then the lame vtec light on the dash.

I dont want2 redline it all the time but hit the vtec every now n themn on the highway.
I use my VTEC almost daily..usually on my wY home from work, it really is mood therapy. Just don't bounce it off the fuel cut off, shift at the light...it will be alright. The engine can take it, it was made for it.

hahaha creating threads can be also a good way to build a knowledge base and get different opinions also!

Which means that VTEC is set up properly. If you can feel VTEC kicking in, something is wrong. The reason you can feel it kick in on the 06-11 Si is because it crosses over at too high of RPM.
My vtec was set at 4400 on my si so it didn't have the normal aggressive and loud crossover, there was still a noticeable change in sound and a smooth surge of power. Every 12-13 I've driven stock or modded has none of this, just smooth steady pull to a low redline.
But yes, you are correct, vtec should be as seamless and the k-series with vtc makes this easily achievable. And I will say if your were going to leave both a 8th and 9th gen bone stock the 9th is a bit better. Having to rev to 6k to make any power gets kinda old and is beyond annoying at auto-x:/

The 12+ does feel it has a bit more torque, but it's also a bore to drive so there's that lol. My 2011 with a skunk2 header and a ghetto street tune by myself pulled my buddy's 12 pretty good from a 60mph roll
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r-ql_Iqe8fQ ... Can clearly hear cross over with rbc and intake ... And you can hear it with stock manifold .. Just got listen for it
If you notice in the first vid how the rbc completely changes the sound of the car .... The way the sound waves resonate off the rbc makes it sound close to a 8th gen
