Intermittent brake lights. 95' Accord
Hello all. I'm new here and just getting use to this forum. I am a mod on a mopar site, so I'm normally pretty good on these sites, but just learning this one and can really use some help.
I am trying to repair my daughters 95' Accord that has an intermittent brake light problem. Most of the time they work. When she notices they are not working (via the dash idiot lights), is when it is cooler outside. Most of the time through the day they work, but first thing in the morning and on the way home from work they sometimes stop working.
About 6 months ago I replaced the brake light switch as she was having issues with getting it out of PARK. The brake light switch fixed it and everything was working great until a few days ago when this issue started. She tells me that now and then she has trouble getting it out of park again, BUT the dash idiot lights for the brake lights do not come on when that happens.
Today I checked with a meter, everything I could in the trunk. I was guessing that the relay, (6-position - 5 wire), was the culprit. I was all ready to tell her that was what we needed when I tested 1 more thing. I probed the Green/white stripe wire that I believe comes from the brake light switch into the trunk and it had power. All good right?? Well, I then plugged in the relay and even right at the feed wire it would go dead just as I hooked up the relay. Never blows a fuse, but kills the lights and the feed to the lights.. So I am completely baffled now. Worse than what I was before... I NEED HELP!!!
All bulbs are new and good. Brake light switch does work every time as long as the relay at the drivers side tail light is unplugged and intermittently when it is plugged in. I am testing with an analog meter, so I can see that the meter does start to climb as the peddle is pushed and for only a split second when it feels like not working. With the relay unplugged I get power every hit of the brake peddle. Anyone seen this before?? Anyone have a great educated guess?? Any and all help is deeply appreciated.
