Default 99 Civic/B18C1 swap/S80 tranny - Overheating because of damaged tranny?

Hello HT. I have a 1999 Civic Ek with a B18C1 engine and S80 tranny. I was doing a lot of driving today and the temp needle was in the middle where it's supposed to be. Is it possible for a car to start overheating because of a damaged tranny? The reason why i ask is because I started seeing green fluid (coolant or tranny fluid?) leaking out of the bottom of the tranny. I was coming out of a dip and I happened to scratch the **** out of something (not sure if it was the oil pan, headers, or possibly the tranny). None of the hoses had coolant coming out of it. I checked the coolant level in the radiator and it was pretty much topped off. I also noticed that the car DOES NOT overheat while it's in idle. I had it idling for 10 minutes and it was fine. I started revving up the engine and that's when I noticed that the car was overheating. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it time for a new tranny?

Coolent is green. There is likely something wrong with your motor seals. At idle your car's fans should keep it cool. When you rev it the fans alone aren't enough to keep up so you need forward motion.

The fans don't even turn on, at least I don't hear them turn on. When the car is on and coasting down the high way, the temperature gauge still starts climbing. And what motor seals?

Looks like it could be your heater hoses leaking, mainly from the heater core. Clean everything up and confirm the source. Coolant doesn't leak from a tranny.

There's a heater hose that connects to the block and it would leak before but it was only a couple of drops that would come out, nothing serious. I'll take another look at it

And to test your fans you could hook them up to come on when you turn on the ignition. There should be a old DIY around here somewhere.

That's coolant, and a lot of it. You need to go over your car with a fine toothed comb for any nicks, dings, cuts, scrapes, or other damage to any of the coolant lines. There's a good number of them.

how many coolant lines are there? The only hoses I looked at were the upper and lower radiator hose, as well as the heater hose. What else should I look at?

Radiator hoses (2), heater core hoses (2), IACV hoses (2), water pump gasket (1), water pipe seals (2), thermostat housing seal (1). I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Because GSR swaps are so common the go for less than LS swaps. Also check the connections the hoses make and tighten your clamps.

Here in Texas a GSR swapped eg coupe goes for ~2500 bucks give or take. A b20/b18 swap usually sells for ~3000 and a lsvtec or type R is ~3500. BUt all this is OT. OP any luck?

That is coolant and you need to track it as fast as you can, this can ruin your engine. Start by the thermostat and heater hoses.

Where do I find the GSR swap cheaper than LS? I want one.

Anyone who thinks an LS swap is more expensive than a GSR swap needs to put the crack pipe down.

Check behind the engine for coolant leaks, you might have coolant leaking out the weep hole in the waterpump and wicking over and coming down in that area, or more likely one of the coolant lines going to oil cooler on the back of the block is leaking.

Good idea about the waterpump, i'll take a look. There's barely any coolant in the front of the engine.
