Default Leaking trans fluid where shifter cables attach?

Its sweating a decent amount. I noticed a gold drip of fluid on the bottom of the trans today so I know something is leaking somewhere.

I took a picture of where the sweating is taking place. I am not sure what the assembly is called.

Also, there was* a rubber cap on a brass tube located on the assembly that the shifter cables attach to that I lost recently and capped with a spare hose and bolt I had laying around. Could of that made things worse?

What is leaking/going out here?

That rubber cap was a breather 21396-PX5-000 it's about four bucks from Honda.
For the interim use a long enough hose so that it curls a bit not allowing debris to fall into the transmission. Remove the bolt form the end of the hose, without the breather when the trans warms up the air has no where to escape from, the case becomes pressurized and will find or create a leak, usually pushing fluid out with it.

There is also seal under that shifter piece that turns where the majority of the leak is.

If you uncap it it should not leak at all through that breather. Just test it. Clean it all up and leave it uncapped. See if it leaks. If it still does it's that shifter seal.

I figured that is what probably happened. Thanks for the for the heads up. I probably did some damage to that shifter seal, if I snagged an exploded view of it would you be able to point it out?

01 EX 5 spd.

Thanks!

Humm. I need to check that breather tube seal on mine as well. My tranny has had that same shifter cable leak for the past 150k miles. Is that something that I need to fix?

How complex is it of a job to fix that shifter cable seal?

I went into Honda and both the breather cap and seal were special order. I am going to replace mine as I cant see any other reason why that assembly would be wet unless there was fluid from it leaking.

Unless somebody can point me in another direction? I am going to get the breather cap, clean everything off with brake clean and see if that seal starts sweating again. The cable/modulator was wet before I had the breather cap issue.

http://www.hondapartscheap.com/parts...l/mt-shift-arm

part 14

If I knew what kind of car you had when i posted I woulda posted that originally.

The only things it could remotely be is a bad axle seal which allows the axle to sling fluid upwards at top speeds. Or the rubber clutch hose that runs near that.
