Help returning '93 Del Sol to stock suspension
I bought a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si on craigslist a little while back, and to put it nicely, it's a fixer-upper. The last guy who owned it knew nothing about cars, and coming from me that's saying something. One of my biggest complaints about it is that he cut about a coil and a half off both the front two springs. I haven't gotten around to checking out the back, but I'm guessing it's going to be the same story there. I called Advance Auto Parts to see what it would cost me to return the suspension to stock, and the guy there said that there was a kit by Eibach for $400 that came with everything I need. I believe that this is the kit:
Eibach Pro Damper Kit
My only concern is that I'm not sure if this kit comes with new coil springs. Buying new coil springs wouldn't be that much of an issue, but I called Advance Auto Parts again, and they said they only carry the back springs. That seems strange to me since the front of the car definitely has springs too since those are the ones that I noticed were cut. Any suggestions?

If you are willing to mess with springs, you could always source them from the junkers. Not sure if that is a reasonable option for you.
Someone put "race" springs on my wifes Honda. My plan is to go to the salvage yard and pull all four struts, then swap out the entire strut on all four corners with new locking nuts from Honda. This way I won't have to worry about dinkering with widow makers errrr spring compressors and my safety.
You could also try the dealership and see what their pricing is on springs being you want stock suspension. They have been known to break so I think Honda still keeps springs on hand.

Calling the dealership is a good idea. I'll have to call them tomorrow. I tried finding a junkyard with a Del Sol in it, but there are none around me in Virginia or my hometown in Colorado. Only thing I can think of would be finding a Honda with the same springs, which I guess I could do, but then I'd have to buy the struts there. Not willing to take them apart in a junk yard since I have a good compressor I can use at a nearby garage.
EDIT: I was actually able to get a hold of them before they closed tonight. They said it would be $500 for all the springs. Yikes! I think I'm not going to be doing that.

I was planning on replacing the struts anyways. They're stock from '93 and having 0 help from the springs should be enough to say they've probably gone south. That and the fact that you feel EVERYTHING on the road. I was thinking about just buying new ones rather than trying to find them in a junkyard just so I know they'll be good for a while.
I was talking with NAPA Auto Parts, they said they have all 4 coil springs for right around $150. That sounds much closer to my range. Haha

First you can buy new OEM springs online for under $400 for the set still not cheap but better than your dealer.
Second they are not Del Sol specific so any number of civics at the salvage yard can supply them. I found a list showing 34 different vehicles with the same rears.
Just a recommendation but O'reilly sells a set of spring compressors that attach to the coils with u-bolts instead of hooks. Much safer and guaranteed for life.

Just get the eibach kit. Good price and nice quality and will ride just like stock.
I had it on one of my old cars and was VERY happy with it.

@belairbrain, I think I'm probably going to go with NAPA on the springs. Good to know that they're not Del Sol specific though. Like I said, I'm pretty sure the DIY garage nearby has a good spring compressor. If not, I'll definitely have to check out that one.
@93egSLEEPER, glad to hear you like the Eibach kit. Do you remember if it came with the springs or not?

'92 - '95 Civics use the same springs. Some of the rears are really cheap depending on exactly ones the Del Sol takes (there are a few different part numbers for different spring rates) I bought all new ones for '94 Sedan at the dealer. It was about $180 - $200 from what I recall. I believe the rears were about $28 each and I believe the fronts were $60 each. The heavier rears for an EX sedan/Integra were $130 each though, I was going to use those, but not for an extra $200.
As far as the shocks go KYB GR2s/Excel-Gs are a great OEM replacement shock that rides like an OEM shock and will actually last.

@93egSLEEPER, thanks for the link. I was able to find what I think are the same Eibach struts, but with an actual picture, and it looks like the front doesn't have a place to even put coil springs. So now I'm confused as to whether or not the front needs them... It would make sense that if you take off springs, you would put springs back on, right?
Eibach Kit
@94EG8, it looks like going with KYB would even save me a few dollars. I might have to look into them instead.

So I've recently been fighting other problems (timing belt mostly) and haven't had the chance to mess with the suspension yet. I'm going to be doing that next though. I just had another question before diving into this. It looks like NAPA is the only place that has both front and rear springs. Everyone else just has rear springs. Does anyone know why this is the case? Also, should I trust the NAPA springs? They said they're manufactured by NAPA Chasis. I decided to go with the KYBs that 94EG8 recommended.
