Default Clutch Reservoir Question

Ok, changed my clutch in my 95 accord.
Clutch is not engaging. (Another post already up about that)
Heres something I noticed. When I manually move clutch release fork and in turn the slave cylinder starts moving. I hear that air is escaping from the clutch fluid reservoir. Ive gotten another cap but it does the same tging. Is it supposed to be air tight? And could this be a possible reason (air in the line) the clutch isnt engaging?

Did you open the system ? Yes, it should be air tight.

Also if someone pushed the clutch while the slave was disconnected it could have damaged it.

Damaged what?
And would I need to replace the whole reservoir?

I can only help if you answer my questions. I don't like giving out bad advice. I can only advise based on what you say.
