OT: What's the coolest place to work?
Okay, my job search is in full swing. I'm looking at as many companies as possible so that the next forty years of my life don't suck. I already have a pretty good list, but I figure I'd let a bunch of hardcore car nuts throw out the coolest places (for guy graduating with a B.S. in mechanical engineering) to work to see if I missed anything
Pretty much anything automotive or race related (or even other stuff) with the exception of:
-Race teams (not ruling them out but there's too many to list)
-Ridiculous stuff like Ferrari (I'm delusional but not THAT delusional)
-Stupid things like bar tender, stunt driver, secret angent, stripper, beer quality assurance testor (actually maybe I'll go for that last one...
)
I'm thinking along the lines of racing/performance aftermarket companies like Hypercoils, Zexel Torsen, skunk2 or places like RENNtech and Lingenfelter.
GO!

Last weekend it would have been the RealTime Accura team pavillion in the padock at VIR. one heavilly modified NSX with four, count em, FOUR spare engines. Two equally modified RSX's and four nicely set up Type R's. Hell, I'd take a job sweeping the floor.

if I were in your shoes I'd try very hard to use your FSAE 'connections' and try and get a job at a race team, any race team! Geez, I'd love to get paid to set-up suspensions on full blown race cars
Trust me I'm trying, but even with FSAE connections it's tough. I do have a few contacts that I'm hoping will work out...
I'd say a design firm of some type. Creative companies have creative people and generally have very enjoyable work environments. This may not necessarily be all car related though.
Many of the companies you mention are quite small in the whole scheme of things. I'm not sure how they would feel about hiring a green person. Maybe you'd get lucky and they'd actually need a low-level person though. I looked into it way back and came to the conclusion that it usually takes more than a BS to get into the "good" jobs. My situation prevented me from doing that so I prettymuch abandoned the engineering degree.

Where are you located? Im in Greenville, about 15 min from the BMW plant where the new Z4's and X5's are manufactured. Im in the process of getting my EBA and am hoping to get a job with them. As for engineering, if you took German courses in school, they would be willing to send your *** to work in the German plant! Hell yea! They even pay for your housing and start you on some ridiculous (high) salary. My original dream was mechanical eng, but I was too big of a ***** to go for it. So, im envious. Good luck man, do something fun with it.
I'd like to be able to work at RENNtech. Imagine being able to own a RENNtech 7.4 liter V-12 E class benz that does 198mph with the stereo and AC cranking, only limit of 200+mph is a hidden block in the ECU. 12.1@120mph on street tires with an automatic tranny incase you still wanted to drink coffee and eat a donut. Thats pure bliss.
