I tried holding them upright it's very hard to get them to move I'm also wanting to sell my car and I need to put the rears back before I can get it to pass safety.

yes that's the thing I took them out properly but the belt/buckle won't come out of the loom/reel/where it winds back in.

I just checked mine and they are also locked up.
I don't think it's because there is too much belt wound up as one of mine is half way out and it's still locked.
There doesn't appear to be a manual release unless you remove the whole component which is plastic and will probadly break.
I'm assuming it's becUse of the angle they are at I would try to bolt the spool back in the car and see if you can't unspool it then.

i have had the same problem and can't figure it out either when i swap my tan interior to black. i manage to slowly pull the belt back out by letting it retract one click and pulling it out fast as i can, it will slowly come out but take a long while somehow there is a locking mechanism that if you let to much of the belt retract it will lock up, i learn my lesson and for the last three i make sure to pull out the whole belt then tie it into a knot so the belt can't retract before unbolting.
Thanks guys yah I can get it to move a bit but it's really slow/hard to get undone should have clamped it. May have to go picking in the spring I'm going to bolt them up and see if I can get them loose.
