Default need advice on 97 Civic HX

Hi I joined this group in hopes of getting some advice.
Last year we bought a 97 Civic HX automatic for our son. The transmission went and we discovered it won't be easy to find one for this model. It's a great car and had lots of work done to it. Is it possible or practical to look for a used engine and transmission? Before we can get it inspected we also need to do rear brakes and suspension bushings. We don’t want to just scrap it without getting something back on our investment. Any advice on how to do that?
You can email me at jvlebrun_jpj@yahoo.com
Thanks Horslvr

You should be able to find a complete stock engine for that car for $350. Including the trans, harness and ECU.
