Default clock dimmer

Awhile back i was in a thread where i was told how to disable the dimming feature of the clock when you turn on the headlights by cutting a wire. I cannot find that thread. I'm taking apart my dash to put in a new tach, and i was wondering how to do it. There's 3 wires I believe, so what do i do so the clock stays fully bright when i turn on the headlamps?

Just as a test - does removal of fuse 19 produce the desired effect?

Hmmm...fuse 19 supplies voltage to the clock to tell it to dim the clock display because the lights are on. With the fuse removed, the clock display should remain bright even with the lights on.

It doesn't seem that way. I removed the fuse, and the parking lights, front and rear, did not work, but headlamps did work. Radio worked too. warning lights lit as usual. but the clock was off.

Can't view link you posted.

Pull the clock and post a picture of the connector and its wires.

Eh i can't do that tonight, it's below zero. I will do this when the tachometer arrives, or tomorrow. But looking at that connector for the clock, couldn't i just cut wire B (blue/black) because it has the light-on signal? Without the light-on signal for the clock, it would just stay lit normally. Or if the dimmer works by switching over from wire C to wire B, I could cut a length of wire, splice it into wire C, and connect it into wire B's port. So basically the main power would go to both port B and C. Would that work? Or can i just cut wire B and leave it at that?

Pulling fuse 19 is equivalent to cutting the Red/Blk wire. Pulling fuse 19 should have worked. I'm wondering whether your clock is stock or the connector has been rewired.

After you remove fuse 19, turn the key to ON(I) to turn the clock on. The clock display should illuminate but not dim when you turn the light switch on.

Alright, i did it again and the same results. However:

I realized that fuse 17 was plugged, and fuse 15 was unplugged, so i moved the 10 amp fuse from there to fuse 15. Clock turned on, everything normal. Then i unplugged fuse 19, and the clock stays fully lit when headlamps are on, but no parking lamps.

Your test proves that you can disable the clock dimming function by cutting the Red/Blk wire in the clock connector.

You're clearly underestimating 94EG8. He's the definition of helpful.

Here's a shoutout to my man RonJ who helped me finish what I wanted done.
Thanks, you helped walk me through how to figure out how to do what I wanted rather than tell me. I cut the red wire, removed the clock and plugged it into the connector, and it stays lit with the headlamps on. Success.
