been asked before, sorry. What octane with b16?
its been asked before, and i did a search. but what octance with a b16? ive been using 91 which is premium at most stations in californina. my reasoning being its only about a dollar more, give or take, per tank. I have a 88 dx hatch with a b16, and the gas tank is ~10-11 gallons. and the diff between let says 89 octane and 91 is at most 10 cents a gallon. so in the end its only a little over a dollar. is my logic wrong? what octane to use then?
use premium.. whatever that is in your area.. premium over here is 93/94 octane.
but it goes with altitude.. probably other factors as well

i ran 104 the other day and it felt awesome!! i know really high octane isnt always best and i dont run it like that all the time but i do have my ingnition advanced and i was taking it to the track but it rained so i didnt get to go .. i felt like had zero hasatation and it just pulled awesome!!
its not much more for premium.....my friend put regular in his b16 crx and he said he noticed that the car didnt pull as hard....i always put premium.....dont go skimp..its just a dollar
puting in a super high octane won't give you more power... unless... you advance your timing.
If you go from 92 to 104 WITHOUT advancing your timing you be making anymore power. but IF you advance the timing then you should definitely run higher octane and you WILL be making more power/speed.
btw: if you go on a long road trip run stock timing and premium octane for the best mileage and longevity of your engine, as quoted by mr. jackson of jackson racing.

I put 93 octane in my hatch. I remember when I first got my b16a I think I put like 87 or 89 in it and it ran like ****. On the turnpike it fall off of throttle and then get back on, very strange thing might I tell you. Then I after that day I have been running 93 ever since, no problems anymore. Well sometimes it does it but I think my gas choices played a factor in it

octain doesnt make hp. its the gas's buring rating escentially.
89 burns faster than 93
110 burns slower than 93
you advance your timing on 89 its the same as 93
you advance your tinming on 110 leaded (which we have at many gas stations HEEHEHE) you reduce the risk of detontion.
you can advance timing more on 110 than you can on 93 b/c of the reduced risk of detonation.
