Default Mudko3's 94 Del Sol B16B swap build

Hey guys This is a Father and Son project, me being 17 and him in his 40's :D.

So i saved up delicious chickfila monies and purchased a 94 Del Sol for $500 came with a d15b7 that somewhat runs but has low oil pressure and a knock :0 no good.

Body is pretty Clean but the interior... Not so much

Time to get ready for the swap...

drained the rad fluid and i kid you not .. it smelled like ****

got the A/c unit and Radiator out after messing with some rust bolts

Messed with the interior, getting that auto-shifter out was a pain... and disconnected the ECU

Got the mounts out except the driver and passenger side mounts out and about ready to drop her out

when i swapped my CTR into my EJ7 we took it through the top... and that was kind of a pain, so we decided to go through the bottom ... well much easier :D

Heres a picture of the b16b

Though.. we ran into some issues.... the mounts are different!! i so forgot the EG's needed different mounts.... will the 2 bolt mount already on my del sol work with my CTR?

I'll have to get a new mount for this side too....

So far thats as far as we have come ...

More posts to come after we get new mounts :D

I'm pretty sure you will need to get engine mount, trans mount, and rear mount for a 94-01 Integra DOHC mount kit. I think the t-bracket from EK might be different from Integra also.

I'm not 100% sure on that. The part numbers aren't the same though...

94-00 Integra T-Bracket- Part # 50827-ST7-000
99-00 SI T-Bracket Part # 50827-S04-N10

No problem. I'm no expert, but going off of part numbers it sounds like it.... EK chassis is a lot different than your Del Sol as far as mounts go. I bought Avid tuner series mounts for $200ish from Speedfactory and I'm happy with them. They make the car vibrate a little more than I like at idle, but for the price they look very nice and do their job.

Alternator, Injectors, Distributor and Speed Sensor are different from OBD-1 to OBD-2. Rywire sells jumpers for all of that stuff so you can use an OBD-1 harness and ECU with your OBD-2 accessories though.

For mounts, I would get an integra 3 bolt mount for the driverside and the 3 post mount that goes on the block. Trans, you need an auto to manual conversion mount or you could weld on a 5spd trans bracket and use a stock 5spd mount. Rear you will need the integra t bracket, the "EK" one will NOT work. You will also need a Del Sol VTEC shift linkage (not the Si single cam shift linkage, the shift linkage from the B-series Del Sol. Yes the shift linkage from the "EK" and integra is different).

You could use your old engine harness, you're just going to have to make some adjustments. ECU, as suggested above, you could get a jumper harness. Just make sure you know if your ecu is OBD2a or OBD2b. Or, you could just got an OBD1 ecu chipped and use that.

would it be best to use the obd1 harness thats in the del sol already , chip the ecu ? or use the obd2 harness and use a jumper?

sorry this whole wiring thing has me and my dad all nervous

A little update !

So yesterday we got the b16b out of my old ej7 ,changed the harness out to obd1 and rewired the alternator... currently waiting on the obd2 distibutor conversion plug. mounts should also be in the next few days.... bout to send in the ECU to phearable. so far the total cost is

Del sol shell w/ d15 - $500
Mounts- $120
dist conversion - $30
Ecu chipping service -$100
vtec linkage -$100

not bad so far, im excited for this car to come alive.

while i have down time waiting for parts im going to clean the interior fully and transfer over the pedal assembly.

Cheers

That's awesome! I would love to have a B16B in my Civic someday. Such cool little motors that are basically just an oversized sportbike motor.

Sounds like you already got some things worked out, but do not use the OBD2 harness. Only thing it is good for is parts (in my opinion at least). Plugs on the OBD2 are way different. Now you could go about repinning stuff and making it work with OBD1, but I would just modify the OBD1 harness. There are a bunch of diy's for adding vtec and all that jazz.

For the Distributor, if you already have the OBD2 dizzy, you could cut off the plugs from your OBD1 dizzy and just rewire the obd2 dizzy. But if you already ordered the conversion harness, than what a couple more days of waiting I guess.

You're making some solid progress. I too am a huge fan of the B16B, you wanna be sneaky you could always throw in a gsr/ls/type-r crank into that badboy and have yourself a 1.8L b16. That's only because b16b use a P72 block. Don't try it to a b16A, lol.

For my Type R swap in my del sol, I just used my OBD1 Harness that was originally in my Sol, a Dizzy conversion harness from Ry Wire and a conversion harness from ry wire as well. I wired the alternator myself, but Im pretty sure you can wire the distributor yourself as well.

As for parts, you need B series mounts, Del Sol VTEC shift linkage, and a b series T bracket from an EG. Youll also need a new post mount from a B series EG or from a 94-01 intergra if you plan to utilize those mounts (many people don't use them, but I figure they are there for a reason).

Also, I believe you have to do something to the fuel injector clips to make them work with the ones on the B series engine. When I did my swap I just took my injectors off my D15 and used them instead of the ones that came with my Type R. I believe D and B series use the same size injectors, and H series use 20cc more.

we ran into issues with the whole Auto to manual thing. the del sol has a special automatic transmission bracket. ordered that already!

got the mounts! waiting on the auto to manual mount, that caused some yelling between me and my father... everything is wired in and injecters from the d15 are being used. waiting on the ECU to come back from phearable.

was your sol shell manual or auto?

My Del sol was manual so I don't know to much about the conversion. You seem to have everything figured out though

I know you asked someone else this question, but im also running a b16b in my del sol. The guy who put the motor together mated together the motor with a 98 spec ITR header, cat and exhaust. Nothing to flashy but it gets the job done.

i appreciate the reply , i heard that it is possible to use ITR headers, i may just cut my existing exhaust and call it a day.

Well everyone ! SHE RANN, after about a month waiting on parts and stuff.

She started up but at first we were having issues with it idling, had to add gas. So I went in to diagnose and checked all wiring and remembered we didn't have a purge valve before hand , so unplugged that and Bam ran nicely and even a smooth idle (cleaned IACV ) went on with further inspections, turned out the rear right strut was missing a strut , glad we caught that. Now for the exhaust issue. We got took our old exhaust and took about 2.5 inches off behind the cat and 6 1/2 from the axel area, she seems to fit, the only sad part is we are waiting on missing bolts for the cat and flanges...

Will post some pictures of her soon

thanks for all the help Guys!

also will keep this up as a build thread now

Edit: Needs a little more off the exhaust and she should be fine. it did throw a code , but its a disappearing one.... we shall see
