Default vtec cams

This may seem like a dumb question, and I've tried searching for the answer bit can't seem to find the right answer.

When replacing cams in a vtec head, do you keep the stock cam gears, or should you get new gears? I guess I'm kind of confused on how vtec works on the cams through the gears. I've seen a few bundles for buddy club cams and they come with gears.

Another thing: when upgrading cams, are they all fixed and nonvtec, or are there more aggressive vtec-type cams to get?

These would go in an ITR b18c. I also understand valve trains need to be upgraded for different modifications.

Yes you can use stock gears

All fixed ? Their are non-vtec cams for non-vtec b-seires engine and their are cams for vtec b-seires engines, they aren't cross compatable. Since this is for a jdm itr yes you would need to, what cams are you getting and what all is done to the engine, you don't want to over-cam'

Yes i would need to... replace the gears? And I'm just looking around right now and want to make sure I'm looking at the right stuff. What are some suggestions for new cams with stock internals (assuming upgraded valve train)

swapping out for aftermarket gears is for degreeing the cams. You can use the stock ones if you aren't degreeing.

Stock cams=stock gears, unless you have a had excessive amounts of milling/decking done the money you spend on adjustable cam gears aren't worth the return on a stock set of cams.
Don't do anything until you spend a good amount of time researching and reading up on this stuff. Don't wanna be a dick, but you can seriously hurt your motor.
