93 civic ex coupe heat issues
i have a 93 civic ex coupe and i can not get the heater to turn on at all the relay in the engine bay is good and the resistor is good also dont have any lights lighting up the climate control either any body have any ideas on what i can do to solve this problem to get some heat flowing through this damn car.... thanks
Does the blower fan kick on? Can you hear it running?
If the fan is running but only blowing cold air, it could be a clogged heater core or the valve that controls the flow rate into the heater core. The valve is controlled by a stiff wire on the back side of the motor. You should see it move on the motor side of the firewall when you use the temperature slider.
Another possibility could be the flapper door inside the heater core box. If it's stuck closed against the core, the air never goes through the core blowing nothing but cold air.
The post on mine is busted so I had to reach under the glove box and turn it by hand one winter after I had put my temp to full cold during the summer. Needless to say the morning before's drive was a darn tootin' cold one.
To get an idea if it might be the diverter flapper in the box, you can look under your glove box towards the center console and you should see a 4 way actuator/lever that operates 4 white sliders. If I recall correctly, the white slider closest to the firewall operates this diverter flapper. If that post is broken or it won't move when you slide the temp control, it could be sitting right up against the heater core diverting the air past the core.
