Ok so im looking to rebuild my tranny and im gonna put my symptoms for you guys can give me your thoughts on what it could be. I realize the best way is to open it and find out but I just want an idea of what im looking at..

Symptoms:
1st gear doesnt go in if im moving at all I can go 2 mph and it wont go in then when I stop I have to let go of the clutch then press it in put in 2nd then it will go in 1st.

5th gear is the weird one... It will only go in once a day sometimes not even that and it wont grind or anything but it will popout after driving on it for like 10 mins.. any other time I try to put in 5th its like its not even going on like its hitting a wall and if I let go of the clutch thinking its in, it does a nasty grinding noise...

4th gear is now beginning to give me problems if I dont go to third first before fourth or if I go to neutral from third let go of the clutch then press it back in and try to put 4th its like a wall... if I put it in to third then 4th its perfect no problems...

I rather just rebuild my tranny then try buying one again because im not gonna know if its a good working one or not.. I dont plan to sell my car or anything soon so i think its a good investment towards it.

Nope its cable, 89 civic hatchback with b18a1 and LS tranny
