My steering wheel started shaking recently at low speeds, less than 30mph, and after that that it doesn't shake but, the car seems to wobble a bit. Also when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left to make a U-turn and accelerate too quickly it seems to make the car jump and its makes a loud squealing noise. I've checked for a loose wheel, all the ball joints are good and outer tie rods and control arms seem good. Could this be a bad inner tie rod or steering rack?

 

Have you checked your wheel bearings too

 

how much play is in the steering before the tires start to move

 

I had 2 bent wheels that made mine shake at low speeds.

 

check tie rods and ball joints, and that one of your lugs hasn't come loose more common then you think.

 

It's also quite possible you've thrown a wheel weight.

 

Guys, sorry for the confusion but, I meant steering wheel not the actual wheel. I recently drove it on the freeway and noticed there's about an 1 or so of play in the steering wheel before the car actually moves left or right. This is most likely my steering gear box right?

 

steering rack adjustment needed or tie-rods(inner/outer) but by the sound of it tie rod ends.
