1995 civic engine dying problem??
Hey guys, I have a 1995 civic ex with a d16z6 engine. Recently ive been having a problem where I start the engine and it immediately dies. So it will turn over and fire but only for a second. Its strange but it only happens a couple times a day. But when it does the immediate dying thing, if I try to start it two or three more times it runs fine. I dont even know where to start looking for something like this. Please help??
Fuel filter is brand new, and pressure is normal. The dying issue has stopped, but now its occasionaly surging (750-1500 rpm) im thinking its the IACV, but is there any way to know for sure before getting a new one? Or a way to bypass it?
I had the exact same problem and it was the ignitor in the dizzy i just replaced the whole thing. My car started ran for a few seconds then died and gradually got worse.
While its surging try tapping it with an extension or something. If it stops then the IACV is sticking.

Sounds more like a bad main relay. When it doesn't start does the check engine light come on before the cranking position for two seconds then cut off (indicating the fuel pump is priming)? Or does the check engine light just stay on?
