Default Starter issue? 99 Si

i have a 99 si i picked up as a project. needed body work. stock b16a2.

i drained the old gas, put a new battery in it and it wouldnt start. it wouldnt even turn over.

the dash lights and fuel pump and everything came on, but nothing. i had my buddy put a jumper from the battery to the signal post (small one?) on the starter and i cranked it over and it started right up.

what would this be? a relay or something? im terrible at trouble shooting.

thanks in advance.

Check for a missing rubber stopper that presses on the clutch switch located at the top of the clutch pedal.

i checked fuses 41 and 42 and both were good.

the clutch switch plunger was being fully depressed, i also depressed it with my finger and it made no difference in starting.

i got no voltage from "S" terminal, so if 41 and 42 were good, could it be the ignition switch?

i started it again by using a jumper from (+) batt. terminal to the "S" terminal on the solenoid and it cranked over and fired right up.

Make sure you checked pedal switch A for the starter at the top of the clutch pedal. If so, check whether the clutch pedal switch gets voltage when the key is held in ON(III). If not, test the ignition switch.
