How Do I Figure Out What SoftWare Is In My Chipped P28?
Alright guys, I have a Chipped P28 Ecu that I have running on my 99 Ex that is swapped with a z6. I got the P28 Off a buddy of mine (who got it in a trade and has no idea whats on it), I am wondering if there is a way to figure out what its tuned with? I only know that it has no rev-limiter and vtec engages at 4500, Id Line to Be able to use the software that is on it to tune my car if i can access it with out having to re-chip my ecu. any input would be helpful. thanks
**the chip had a sticker on it but its so old you cant read the writing on it.

It is junk most likely an old CROME file from Ebay t00ners when it was popular. Either way there is no tuning program on the chip just a file that the ECU can interpret. You need your own tuning software.
Post the picture to Photobucket or flicker and then use the [img] links.
As far as tuning your chipped ECU goes. How much are you willing to spend to tune this yourself? It will be in the range of $500 - $800 to do it reliably.

If you buy Crome you will also have to buy the hardware to datalog and then program the chips or you would be better of buying a chip emulator (ostrich or Demon). Not to mention you would also need a wideband O2 sensor if you don't already have one.
By the time you buy everything you need to tune with Crome. Right now the creator of Crome has gone on vacation and left it so that tuners can't use it properly...yet again! You might as well have purchased something that is still supported... Neptune Demon.

and so basically im stuck with whatever **** tune is on the thing until i up and buy everything to redo it or buy a stock p28 then. correct?
Even worse... that chip is soldered directly to the ECU board. So to do ANYTHING that chip will have to be removed and a socket installed depending on what EMS you decide to run. Either way, if it is a stock manual ECU then you can just remove the jumper they luckily installed for you and run the stock P28 map. That would be better than whatever garbage is on that chip.
The jumper I am talking about is just to the right of the chip. About 1/3rd from the bottom - it is black rectangle with 2 pinouts (gold in the center). It just slides right off.

You can find someone who has the equipment already to tune you if you're not interested in tuning it yourself.
Or you can take that neat jumper off of J1 to put it back to stock P28 programming.

an experienced circuiteur (I made that word up, makes me sound fancy) should have no problem removing that chip and installing a socket. You may not be able to salvage that chip, but you're better off with a custom base anyway if you're just blindly trusting it.

With a good solder station with a solder sucker/vacuum an experienced circiteur could remove that chip and have a socket in place in no time.
