Default 2007 hch hybrid battery

My hybrid battery has been slowly degrading. Now at 120k miles, it still works a little, but I only get maybe 34 mpg and the engine/IMA lights come on randomly. I would take it to the dealer but the lights don't stay on very long and besides I don't want to pay$$ for a new battery now. But here's the problem: lately I noticed a smell like hot glue melting whenever the IMA light comes on. Is my battery getting ready to catch fire??

Batteries in hybrids have a 10 year warranty I though? 7 maybe?

The warranty was 80k miles so that's all done with. Purchesed in MD so no protections.
