Default No luck with TIG jobs in Chicago Area..anybody knows of anything ?

I'm having a really hard time trying to find a spot for Tig Welding here in the chicago area. I just recently graduated not too long ago from the Illinois Welding School, and I'm ready for work. I'm a bad *** welder for where I'm at & I know how to read symbols & prints. I can do stainless, and aluminum. Not a lot of companies take my resume series because I lack the professional experience on paper, and this is why I don't get that many calls at all. How about hooking a brotha up ? X_X

make a picture portfolio with your work and show people. Just because you graduated at a welding school makes qualify for jobs. With welding people want to see your work. Give that a try. Good luck bro!

Don't take this the wrong way, but try to act a little more professional and that might help.

Don't take this the wrong way but just because you graduated from a welding school doesn't mean you are a "bad *** welder" as you put it. It's like any other skill based job, experience is king. I know dealer techs that graduated Wyo-tech, UTI, Lincoln Tech, ect, that think they're "the ****" and can't hold a candle to some self taught techs out there. As you have already discovered most places want some level of prior experience. Since you have none outside of school the best thing you can do is make a portfolio of your work as SW20 already said. That would be a good supplement to your resume just to show who ever reviews it that you are capable of doing what the paper says you can. How many certs do you have and in what?
