Let's talk wheels!
So what does one need to know before getting some new wheels/rims?
Are allow rims just for look or does it add other benefits to a car? And, how do you determine which size is the best for your car?

It all depends on what your goals are for the car. Before doing anything, you need to determine what you want the end result to be. Form or function basically. Then research from there.
I would like both, form and function. Having alloy rims does make the car look nicer. However, because it is a lighter material, does it positively impact the drive?
Yes I agree with above, It all depends on what your goal are for the car. For what purpose you want to use, racing, just for family or yourself etc.

Not much benefit at all, besides looks IMO. A larger wheel, with lower profile tires can help with cornering, but that's about it. More wheel means more weight, which hurts performance. A sport wheel will be lighter, but a lighter wheel could also be more fragile and prone to damage.
Nicer as in esthetically looking better. IMO.
I have 6X6.5 wheels. I will stay with the size that came with the car.
Merely for myself. Esthetics.

If you've decided on staying with a 16X6.5 inch wheel then you will be in the same weight range (unless you specifically look for lighter) between all rims. So just go with what looks good to you.
I don't think you can go any lighter. So am I right to say that the different size stock tires won't negatively impact the drive of my LX?
Ok , here's what I don't understand, my car came with 16 X 16.5 wheels. I have a guy that wants to sell me 18 inch STOCK alloy rims with the tires for $750. They came on his 2012 Honda Accord Coupe. So is it recommended to but lager tires on a car that came with smaller tires?
I wouldn't say it's recommended, but if you like the way the wheels look you can put them on your car. If they are much heavier they could lower your mileage, and acceleration a bit, but it shouldn't make much difference. If the diameter is much larger, they will change the speedometer a little also (you will be going slightly faster than the speedometer indicates). Try them out for a couple days, if you can. You might even notice the difference just going around the block a couple times.

most times you want the new tire wheel combo to be the same diamter as your original.
EX: my stock wheel was 17 x 7 with a 225/50R17 tire. My summer combo is the same diameter but its 19 x 8 with a 245/35R19 tire. offset is a another conversation LOL.
but seriously here is a calc . mess with it. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator
