Default EG5 Civic & PP1 Beat owner from Aus :)

Hi guys,

Pav here.. Been lurking these forums for a while, mostly looking up info and advice with a couple of projects I have going on.

I've been in the Honda scene (a very poor one we have here in Adelaide, South Australia I might add ) for about 9 years now. It all started with a gunmetal DC4 Integra which I absolutely adored since day one and ended up pulling out the old B18B2 with it's 220xxx k's and fitted a JDM B18C Type-R motor. That was a fun car and it was about then when I developed a love for track work and would get out for the odd grip day every few months. Unfortunately after about 5 years of ownership I was involved in an accident. The damage wasn't too bad but I decided to strip the car and transfer all the good bits into an EG as I'd always wanted one and was always going to build a track oriented car. EG's are well cheaper and a bit lighter so it was an easy choice.

Here's a few snaps of the Integra:

Early days haha

Then I got over the 17's, parked next my my good mate's Lude at a meet

At my last track day in the Teg

1992 EG5

When I originally bought the EG it was in pretty poor form... about 230xxx k's on it and motor was blowing a bit of smoke, some small leaks, pinging, 2nd gear synchro on it's way out and some of the mods were questionable. Shocking 17's with chinese rubber, eyelids, chrome mesh over the radiator, 3 yes 3 koni shocks which were well and truly past their prime. On the bright side it did have an OEM EG6 lip

Within about a fortnight the car was sitting on some 15" meshies, Tein SS coils with Buddyclub camber adjusters, DC2R front brakes, Bride seat and a few other bits.

I was just about to order a J's Racing exhaust, with a waiting period of 2+ months when the timing belt snapped and the motor went bang... I had the B18C and all the conversion parts sitting in the shed, only needing the exhaust but luckily I hadn't orered it yet (although I still always wish I had) so I had to get a move on with the conversion as I needed a car to get around.

First time doing the conversion alone and everything went very smooth... except that my mate decided to prank me and switched over some spark wires... and then wait for it... forgot he had done it!!! Grrr I wasted 2 days trying to figure out why my motor was running like **** and I even thought it could be the wires but knew that I never touched them as they were not marked on the dizzy so dismissed that as a problem.

2 years on and the Civic is no longer street registered (although it can be, not sure how long I'd last on the street, though). This is what it looks like now:

The bay is far from show quality but it's easy to work on so that's the main thing.. might do a semi-tuck one day when I re-do the loom and rid of the p/steering

Got a wing on now, and half way through making a front splitter

Also got a couple of new bits, Spoon twin blocks with 2-piece rotors and Toda (gen 1) ITB's

The EG is a work in progress and is still a long way to go until it's near completion but in it's current state its reliable, quick enough and lots of fun without costing me mega bucks to track. The parts list is pretty extensive so I won't waste your time writing it all down.

'95 Honda Beat PP1 (Version Z)

For anyone not familiar with Beats they are a Japanese "Kei-Car", same class of car with AZ1's, Cappuccinos, etc. I won't get into too much detail but this thing is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol 656cc engine with a monsterous 63hp at the flywheel. It uses Honda's MTREC system which is basically factory ITB's so this thing roars. It also has a MR layout which m akes it a great and nimble car to drive.

Bought this thing bog stock for peanuts. Was a bit of a random buy actually but it came up for a price I couldn't refuse. Have had it for about 6 months now and I absulutely love it! It needs a bit of love as it's puffinga bit of smoke and has oil leaks galore but I plan on giving the motor a complete overhaul before our next summer here and in a couple of years or so I plan on doing a B-series swap to it. It's been done a handful of times and involves a fair bit of fabrication but I think its a project I would love to take on. Anywhoo here's a few pics of it since purchase.

Stock as a rock, as I bought it (besides a retrofitted EG6 lip off my Civic haha)

A few months, and Yahoo Japan purchases later

Some of the mods include TE37 wheels: staggered 14x6"+32 & 15x6.5"+36 (stockies are 13 & 14"), Trust PS Compact coilovers, Nardi Classic 350 steering wheel, OEM DC2R gear **** & boot, Carbing roll over bar and a few other bits with plenty more to come

Just to give you an idea on the Beat's size

Cheers,
Pav
