Is it time for a transmission? what do you think?

I hopped in my son's car tonight after he complained of not going over 45 mph. Took off and 1st and 2nd shifted between 3500 and 4000 rpm. 3rd wouldn't shift till I started going downhill. He has over 160k on it and the paperwork in the glovebox says the transmission was replaced at about 90k. Think it's time for a transmission?

Do you guys ever have the transmission fluid changed out ? I assume it's an auto ?

Can't really imagine one going bad after only 70k unless you drive the crap out of it and never change the fluid.

Check for any and all codes.
