Doing some high high rates testing
Hello guys, just got ahold of some zeals from a friend, the rates on them are 20kg front and 18 kg rear. Going to run a huge rear 32mm sway bar. It's a 6 click damper I believe, so I'm going to tune that in Going to test them at the track as soon as it gets a little warmer. Car is fully caged and is built for STU. Just curious on what you guys think of 20kg front and 18kg rear? These are rediculously stiff. I'll post results when I can. It'll be curious to see how much oversteer I get. Hmmmm any predictions ? Btw car is a 1996 civic ek sedan
What kind of tire are you using? This setup is WAY over sprung and would need slicks and aero. My guess is that it will be more unstable than anything. I'm guessing for a lot of understeer.
I have also seen some Zeal Dyno charts and from what I recall only clicks 1-3 make much difference on a dyno. 4-6 barely had a change at all.

That's what I really want to test, these aren't going on my car the long term, I just wanna see why these are so much damn money lol. However I'll be running bfg r1s I agree I think it will understeer like a bitch but with no front sway bar it could help. I'll find out, but I don't know why they would use rates this high for the front, I mean holy **** lol
Those front rates are a bit on the high side to put it mildly...
Probably going to have an understeer tendency unless you remove the front bar all together. Also probably going to be skittish around turns if the track is anything but perfectly smooth. Are you running any sort of aero package on the car?

Yes the test car has a front splitter from pci. The front bar is gone and will not go on ever , I've found that the ek sedan civic does rotate a lot better with no front bar( at least it did with it's old set up I had) The track is very tight and only 1.5 miles long. It'll be interesting lol
I had a set of Zeals about 8 years ago. Took them apart and was horrified how terrible they are. Emulsion shock with no separator piston. Just Nitrogen added to the oil. SO my two cents if the car doesn't handle that well blame the shocks over the spring rates.

Yea I'm going to have to agree, Just by looking at the zeals I don't see anything "spectacular" about them. Installing them Tonight. Because the rate in the front is like over 1000, it may understeer. But that sway bar may neutralize it. Doing the math and looking at motion ratios for the car, in theory, it will handle decent bit well see.
In a couple months I'm going to be doing a write up on some custom made and revalved buddy club RSDs with swift springs. And post some shock dynos. They are being done now.
Very true, so it's gonna be interesting to see how the thing rotates, I'm my opinion the rear bar will help that. I'm really curious to see the zeals. People thing they are god. Not so sure.

In general, Japanese dampers are valved and sprung pretty aggressively. however Japanese tracks are small and smooth. So they are able to go with a different style of tuning the cars.
Kozy brings up a good point. The rates are proportioned front to rear. just really high. understeer might not be as bad as we are all thinking. But still a lot more than these cars need or benefit from.

I'm really going to mess with the damper. My home track here has 12 turns and is 1.5 miles long and also smooth. Maybe it will benefit here. Like you said, Japanese tracks are smooth.
This. Don't forget to try running the very low ride height that such stiff spring rates would (in theory) allow.
