Gsr Build Finally Started..
Hello everyone. This thread is for the enjoyment of watching a build progress slowly but surely. I appreciate all lookers and opinions! Thanks in advance.
Here is my foundation to build upon. I'm currently driving a 98 Hx Civic. This car is my first car, given to me when I was 16. I am now 21. I never really cared about my Honda until I was about 19 and rode in a turbo'd ls integra. I became very interested in my civics potential and found myself diving into threads(mostly pictures of course), posting stupid threads to ask stupid questions, and fantasizing myself in a fast and furious car. Learning the correct engine codes and coinciding chassis made me feel like I was doing something right and gave me a little drive to research real information. I never gathered enough information to decide what kind of build I wanted to invest in though. First, like all other newbs, I found the most expensive and highest powered motor on all of honda-tech and based my "build" off of that. K20A2. I realized that this motor was unrealistically expensive for me to purchase and moved on to the next best thing. My D16Y5.
I found myself doing research on this single cam motor and became very displeased with the turnout. I then yelled at my parents for buying me the ugly duckling of the bunch. I did not stop there though. I had to find out if there was a way to squeeze any more power out of my little honda. I came upon a couple D16Z6 turbo build threads and became very inspired to make a "long-term investment" in my Y5. This died quickly when I found out that LS motors were inexpensive and relatively easy to come by. As months of me jibber jabbering and pipe-dreaming went by, I finally shut up and looked for a well paying job. After telling my dad about all my "plans" for my civic, he would always tell me "it's only money". This got me excited to push my college degree and look for a great job. Well it happened. I was finally blessed with a great job for my age. Fast forward 6 months.
I currently have a 98 B18C1 long block sitting in my garage.
Installed are:
Arias 9:1 pistons
Eagle H-beam Rods
Titanium keepers and retainers
Bronze Valve Guides
Stainless Steel Valves
Blox Block Guard
ARP Fasteners
ARP Head Studs
XTD Stage 4 Clutch
I also have sitting in my garage an almost complete turbo kit containing a Roto-Master T04B turbo, all piping and mishimoto intercooler, greddy turbo timer, oil feed lines, Hondata S300, PFab turbo manifold, HKS BOV, and boost Gauges.
I will be purchasing an LS transmission to put Carbon synchros in. Also will be purchasing LA sleeve job next month. Eventually an MFactory LSD, Walbro 255, Idk what injectors probably RC or Precision, VictorX Manifold, Tial wastegate, 2.5" or 3" exhaust, and downpipe. Aside from motor components, I will be purchasing Koni/GC coilovers, as well as a fresh DIY paintjob. My car deserves a freaking paint job so bad!!!!! My paint has been chipping since I was gifted the car. Clear coat is basically gone.
I have gone through many ups and downs in my little honda adventure but seeing the fruit of my many hours of research is finally paying off. I don't want to cut corners for this build. I want to hit the 375-400hp bench mark right away. I will also post pictures eventually here because I see this as my "Picture-Book" for record keeping. Let me know if any of you are similar to me
or have any advice.
Thanks for the read.

Don't waste your time with an LS transmission, unless you're trying to pinch pennies. Do it right the first time, and get a SI transmission if you don't mind the high highway RPM, a GSR if you do, or an SI transmission with an LS 5th and FD if you really do. Do yourself a favor, as well, and get Injector Dynamics injectors. RC are old tech, and your tuner will hate you when s/he tries to set idle. With a setup like that, you'll definitely want 3" - bigger motor, FI, you want to let it breathe as much as possible.
Good luck man, should be a fun build. A friend of mine had the SI tranny with an LS 5th and it was a nice commuter/fun to rip around town in. Consider that as an option.
Funny that you recommend that not a racist. I was offered a si tranny with ls 4th and fd with lsd... might just pick it up. will go injector dynamics. Don't quite understand what you meant by "With a setup like that, you'll definitely want 3" - bigger motor, FI, you want to let it breathe as much as possible" though. Are you referring to the intercooler piping or exhaust? I plan on getting a 3" exhaust anyway if thats what your talking about.
Thanks brandon. I am a little worried that the si gears are a little short for me because I prefer longer gears due to daily commuting but I suppose I should give them a try before I make my permanent decision. I will post a couple pics of where I am at.
