Default 4-2-1 B18C prototype full titanium header 2.6 kg / 5.7 lbs

Should we do a production run? It's a niche market but a possible small batch is in the works. We're doing some number crunching right now.

Go to our facebook page and like us! :-)

http://www.facebook.com/akmee2004

Youtube video:

Facts:

- full titanium, everything including the flange is titanium except for the stainless spring hooks.

- this prototype pieces contains 101 individual pieces that was welded together!!

- 1 mm thick titanium tubing used in this prototype. production batch will likely have the first section of the tubing coming out of the header flange made with either 1.2 mm tubing or high temp grade tubing (or both) to enhance durability.

- the 8 mm thick header flange (0.38 kg / 0.88 lbs) along is about 15% of total weight. it is about half the weight of stainless flange. we think a 6 mm flange should work fine to reduce it another 25%.

PS, titanium RCREW swap header anyone?? :-)

The weight is amazing.
Looks nice, I miss the flange to the test pipe. The design is like Hytech with shorter secondaries and lack of merge collector. Would love to see dyno tests... and wondering price.

Really? Why? It can't make any diff performance wise. Just a joke for "ballers" to say look what I got. As if damn Honda headers aren't stupid high on price already.

As with any change material there are pros/cons of titanium over 304, 321 stainless or even inconel. This prototype was done to show off the craftsmanship. I think most people can appreciate the work but the number of people that will shell out the money will be quite low.

The way this prototype was built there are tons of pieces (I think I'll make a total count of it later) and tons of welding. Welding titanium requires more skill/effort and prep work than stainless so cost is much higher. The material it self is also much more expensive. Is it all worth it? To most, no. To some, heck yes. :-)

We are evaluating ways to reduce production cost and possibly do a small batch run.

very nice! I'll definitely pay attention and watch for the small batch run.

btw, I think I might've met you before at Six Sigma. I believe you had the black NSX. I had a Midori Green civic, and Danny was connecting my exhaust to the SSR Header. if not, sorry for the mistake.

A flange can be made for the conventional donut gasket setup. It adds a bit of weight though. The 4 port header flange is titanium but it accounts for about 25% of the header weight! For this test setup a simple titanium header back exhaust with resonator but no rear muffler was made. It goes under the rear sub-frame. It just slip fit into the header.

It we do a production run it will likely be a donut gasket setup. The way this one is built it would have to be about $2500.

I thought the potential niche audience will more likely be dedicated show cars who wants something rare and different. Or other people (maybe original ITR owners, people who buy original JDM goods) that are willing to pay top dollars for the rare ultra high quality goods.

Yes I remember our brief run in at DNR/SSR. Your car was clean!

Your scenario could happen! I'ts much cheaper than your soul, I just need your kidney.

It already has changed from the brief running. I'm not sure how much more it will change under use. Probably not a whole not more normally.

a titanium vtec valve cover would be a badass addition to this header. and maybe an intake manifold and intake pipe for a complete package .

i would probably start hyperventilating if i saw a titanium engine bay.

This is probably one of the best build/craftsmanship quality headers I've seen. It also looks like it'd like a bigger sized engine as well to work with.

Awesome work! Must take some manhours to make one. Just out of curiosity, how much would a similar header made of inconel cost?

She is beautiful ... I'd assume it has kind of diff sound then most headers because of the way the sound waves resonate off the titanium tubing verses steel and aluminum I remember hearing a car with 4 inch stainless exhaust then switched over to 4 inch aluminum and it sounded pretty differnt everything stayed the same gonna have to see if I can find it
