Default Quote for Repairs to CRV - opinions?

CR-V was hit from behind by a Civic moving at 20-30 km/hr. It appears the main damage was to the rear center bumper (see pics), appears like an X scratch.

This was the quote I received from the Honda dealership.

A friend was skeptical on the impact absorbers and replacement bar.

Thoughts?

I don't think you should need anything but the bumper itself. I probably wouldn't even bother replacing that - just put a funny sticker over it (like a bandaid) and keep rocking the V. This car is probably not worth $700 in cosmetic repairs.

If the guy who hit you is paying for it, I'd get it fixed. I can't see the damage if any to the impact absorber or reinforcement bar. By the time you throw tax and the quoted 2.5 hrs labour its $1000. A 2007 CR-V EX-L IMO is worth fixing.

1. don't go to a dealer for repairs. their labor rates are always higher than a regular body shop.
2. they can't know that the impact bar or absorber need to be replaced until they remove the bumper.
3. do you really need a brand new OEM bumper on a 7 year old vehicle? go with used or aftermarket. it'l look the same and also save you some money.

i would never pay this estimate. i'm a claims adjuster for a major insurance company.
