Single Bend more effort, Dual bend easier to throw...

But I recommend http://www.fitzperformance.com

Excellent products and unbeatable price...

There is no best short shifter. They all suck *** and will destroy your tranny. Buy a short shifter and kiss your synchros good bye.

Plus you will miss shifts more often because of the extra force you will need to use putting it in gear before the synchros get a chance to do their magic.

I hope you have a domestic tranny because you will be rebuilding it in a matter of 2 years or less. It's hard to find parts for JDM transaxles.

i know plenty of peeps who've had short shifters for well over 2 years that have had no problems at all. It just depends on how you drive.

Well if you drive like your grandma then a short shifter will be OK. I don't know a lot of people who drive like an old woman except for my grandma so that's where I'm coming from.

Maybe when you guys get a little older you'll understand. I can see how a shortshifter might seem really cool when you are a ricer. It makes the shifts seem fast. Shortshifters and 17's and altezza's... what ever. Rice

*sigh* since you dont know what the fwak your talking about

Yes, you can damage your synchros, or at least wear them out more quickly with a short shifter than the OEM shifter.

The problem is that the gears need a fraction of a second to align properly and mesh smoothly.

It is the synchros that accomplish this by using a cushion of tranny fluid to transfer the motion of the fast moving synchro to the surface of the slow moving or still synchro. This transfer of energy takes a fraction of a second, but if your short shifter moves the gears into each other before the synchros have time to get the gears aligned and the speeds nearly equal, then you effectively are mashing the synchros together at disparate speeds which results in them wearing more quickly than if they were given time to come up to the same speed.

This doesn't mean that if you use a short shifter you are going to ruin your transmission or that if you don't use a short shifter that your transmission is going to last forever. It simply explains the way in which a short shifter can lead to shorter synchro life

I'm confused as to how what you said is any different than what I said?

Most of the time, when I post, I don't get very many replies. I swear I can hear tumble weeds going by my desk. Then I post on something as banal as short shifters and the whole web comes alive. Hmmmm

i just went into more detail

in lamens terms:

If you shift like a normal person even though you have a short shifter, you tranny will be fine. But if you beat the **** out of your tranny cuz j00 think you have mIzZaD sHiFfTiNg SkIlLs Yo! your tranny is shot

OK, OK jesus get off my ***. I am just pissed off right now because I just got an SiR tranny with a messed up 4th gear synchro and the dude who had it before me used a nuespeed short shifter that was so bad he didn't even notice the scratching synchro. There feel of the shifter was so bad I could barely drive his car.

I've used shortshifters before and I missed shifts more often because of the greater effort needed to shift. I've also ragged out a tranny using a short shifter. I don't care how careful you are there are times when you just can't wait to shift.

You have to ask yourself why you want a short shifter. If you answer, "because I want to shift faster" then you will most likely damage your tranny. If you answer, "because it's cool" then go for it and see what happens. I'm just warning you.

I'm sure people are taking offense because they paid over 100 bucks for their shifters that didn't really do any thing but make it harder to shift. Sorry but I feel it's almost as bad a cutting your springs or riding on 17s in a 2200lb car.

Ok, flame on.

More expensive ones generally do not break, there is not difference in effectiveness that is noticeable enough to defend the increase in expense.
