Default First new car - 2013 EX w/Navigation

Bought my very first new car on Thursday. I always told myself I never would but the wife has put her foot down. Once we get a house with garage space I can then purchase something much MUCH older and be happy.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the features a lot. Being able to plug in a flash drive and have literally ALL of my music collection at my finger tips is awesome. The cabin is much quieter than her 1999 EX and feels like a Mercedes compared to my 89 LX I just sold.

I do not appreciate the way the front end feels so huge, nor do I care to have the A pillars in full view but what can you do.. Today's safety requirements have changed the look of cars for the worse..

Anyways.. here are the details

2013 Honda Civic Ex w/Navigation

$20,964.84 OTD

12 miles

Polished Metal Metallic w/black interior

Overall the car is nice. I low balled and fought like heck to get them under 20k but gave up. I still think I got a great deal, I just don't fall into the category of buyers who are desperate to get into a new car. I'm not impressed with how the car feels suspension wise. If I put new shocks and springs on our '99 EX I bet it would feel quite similar.

Goal for the car is to serve as my daily driver car. I make monthly trips to the valley and Sacramento so now I have a reliable way to do so. I guess it will look good pulling in and out of the office. Responsible, simple and not flashy.

I have a set of 17x8 RPF1's that I can pick up any day from a close friend.. but then I would have to lower it.. and then its always downhill from there, well see I suppose

A lot of your problems is because of the model you got. Not that the Si is awesome, but you get a MUCH better car for a little more money. I test drove them side by side and wanted to burn the EX to the ground afterwards and just couldn't understand why Honda continues to put out **** cars. Heck, even the Accord rides worse than the Si... I use Honda's 0w20 since my dealer threatens voiding warranty if it comes back oil related and my engine is VERY noisy. Sounds worse than a 200k+ B-series that wasn't serviced well.

This was my first new Honda as well and will be my last. Their warranty sucks all the way around and the cars are just unimpressive. I feel your pain brother. I think you got a decent deal for the package though. Enjoy it as best as you can.

Don't waste the money on bigger wheels. If you want a car that's vastly more fun to drive, do lowering springs and shocks and a rear swaybar.

Then, just leave it alone. You'll see exactly what I mean when you do the suspension. It completely transforms the car.

Congrats on the new ride! If you end up deciding to lower it, do it right the first time with good coilovers or a good strut/spring combo.

better tires will make a world of difference!

brake pads also... I would upgrade to hawk hps for street use.

Surprisingly, the stock pads on my '12 sedan are rather bitey. They are strong enough to make the ABS kick on whenever I want (even with much better tires), so I left them as-is for now.

Even so, with new tires you're going to overwhelm the OEM suspension even more. Speaking in terms of a daily beater (which is what mine is), good springs, shocks and a swaybar will net the best results and make the car far more fun to drive.

Yea I was shocked to find out they wouldn't budge on the 3 year warranty.. thats pathetic considering there biggest draw is longevity. I told the car I just sold my 89 civic, and still own a 99 and how little sense it made to me to purchase a new car with such a terrible warranty. He just smiled and said thats what they offer..

Assuming this car can last as long as the current and previous civics.. It may be my first and only new car purchase.

There are plenty of things to love, it just feels like there could be so much more. Like the seats, I am a small guy.. 5'9 150 lbs and they are so uncomfortable! not to mention lint magnets. It wasn't a purchase made to show off thats for sure, so I just stopped thinking of it as something cool to have, instead its just another tool to get from A to B and its doing jsut fine as that.

I thought about doing this but I have since changed my mind. What is most likely going to happen is I am going to buy a Truck. Give the wife the civic, and take the 99 ex as my to work and back vehicle.

Coming from my 89, these Brakes are FANTASTIC. Plus Im a 62 mph on the freeway kind of guy so I dont do a lot hammering down on the brakes. I will look into something when the time comes for a replacement tho.
