could there be a coolant leak? whitish smoke is usually the scene of a coolant leak somewhere. blackish smoke is probably an oil leak somewhere. perhaps the head gasket isn't on right? what head gasket are u using with your ls/vtec? were u having problems like this when you first had the work performed on your vehicle? btw, i don't know if u have ls/vtec, i'm just assuming that from your nick name...

could be blow by.. My car does the samething. make sure it's not running too rich, and keep an eye on the oil. If it happens only in v-tec, and at higher rev's most likely it's just blow by. Also the straight pipe doesn't help with the black smoke either.

How's the oil level in between changes? I think it's just the straight pipe, cuz I've seen all sorts of cars blow out blackish smoke. The whiteish smoke moght be from some oil but nothing major. I'm not sure but an oil catch can might help with reducing blow by.

i burn a little oil (depending on how hard i drive it) it also has a slight tick. do y think it could be the valves i dont think they have ever been adjusted. oh i also have a full DC exhaust.. btw its a 99 GSR. ive been to a couple of local shops but only one said anything worth listing to he said its running to rich and thats the black soot im getting on my bumper cover. any ideas whats the prob. 56,000mi

Most cars run rich when floored, so you get black tips on your exhaust. Heard that by installing headers. and exhaust on Hondas, you run rich. It's normal. So don't worry about it too much. My tips gets black after 2-3 days of flooring it. It's a Greddy sp.

try the plugs. But it really depends on how the muffler tip sits. Mine is in enuff so the bumper stays clean. I also drive a white car, but then again I wash my freakin car every week.
