Default Ran slicks for the first time...gotta a few questions.

Last friday, went to Palmdale with my hatch (b18c1 swap). Used 20x8x14 M/Ts on a pair of steelies for the first time. I must admit...kinda scared me off the line. Going from 13 goodyears on the vx wheels to the m/ts......difference is night and day.

Anyways, my 60 footers were 1.9s consistently. Is that ok for my first time?

Should I be doing my burnouts in 1st or 2nd gear? I was doing em in first...but didn't feel like I could get a good one down. It'd spin..then pull me forward immediately.

Finally, I have no lsd. I don't wanna peg leg it. Should I be turning the wheels while warming up the tires?

Help a noob out

BTW, gotta love those Palmdale officials. Light rain fell and before I run..i ask one official:
me:"is it safe to be running with slicks?"
him:"nope...wait...u have slicks on?"
me:"yea, that's why I ask."
him:"well...it doesn't matter for ur little imports."

Without an LSD it's probably a good idea to cut the wheel back and forth. Have one of your friends stand near the burnout box to see if both wheels are spinning. The best way to heat the tires up is to spin shortly in the water, pull out and burn the tires until a little smoke is rolling. It doesn't matter what gear you're in. Don't spin the tires too long. Most people are under the impression that it's necessary to sit there and spin the crap out of the slicks. They are heat responsive and they're designed to heat up quickly. You even said that it hooked up while burning out. That's a good sign that they are warm enough. What RPM's were you launching at? 1.9 60 foots are pretty good.

7 k is fairly good on a 20 inch slick. I'd be happy with those results if I were you. Maybe launching at a higher RPM might cut down your 60 foot, or it might spin. Find out what works best for that car.

pulling you out of the box: was your ebrake way up high? try to let the car pull you out of the box, but if it doesnt work after a few good seconds, then slowly lower the ebrake and let it spin out of the box.

1.9 60 fts are pretty good. most common 60fts are 1.9's while with better suspension and cleaner launches can get you 1.8's. with more power and a combo of the suspension, you can dip into the 1.7s and 1.6s

also try doign your burnouts in 2nd gear, can get them spinning better, but dont overdo it. stay at thebox for about 5-8 seconds.
about the turning the wheels, ya to get them both going but be carefull, some tracks dont like that at all and they get pissed off when people do that.
but if you do, do that. make sure you hold on tight and be ready just in case it starts to move the car sideways.

Yea, I'll try the 2nd gear burnout next time. I guess I was too paranoid...thinking I was gonna stall. Never did I think a 2nd gear burnout was possible. Thanks for the help and also not flaming me for such noob questions

I tried doing a second gear burnout last friday. My RPM's dropped to about 2000 after I dumped it.

I ran 14.45...so sea level corrected that's 13.99.

@ Sears Point I ran 14.4 with a sorry 2.39 60 ft and obviously traction loss going into 2nd gear.

Now if I were at Sears again...60footers 1.9 or maybe even 1.8..I'm hoping for high 13s there.

with SOHC, I rev to about 5500-6000 rpm and dump the clutch, keep engine at/below 7000 rpm shift light.

I did do a sideways hook. redid whole burnout procedure.

I went a 13.31 on 60 shot, SOHC go figure.
