Chattanooga autocross. Weather, mid 70's and dry. Grip, almost none.
Literally, I could not put power down. Car pushed miserably, then tried to snap spin. No one else was having traction issues except for one FMod car. I am guessing that the Hoosiers were done? I asked around, and several STS guys were having no issues and posting great times.
Considering that the tires were scuffs bought second hand, I am not surprised by their reduced longevity, but I am surprised that they went away so quickly just autocrossing them. (~8 events, these were the R3S03's)
Oh well. At least I flatspotted 2 of them down to the cords. That will help me to resist temptation to use them again.

I haven't heard of any performance fade from the A compound.
I know Heath and Renee run them to the cords.
The R compound hoosier isn't a good asphalt autocross tire anyway. It's almost impossible to get them up to optimal temperature unless it's an incredibly hot day.

I have very limited experience with them, but after using 2 "end of life" R3S03 Hoosiers and 2 Victoracers on the second day of the ITR Expo, I found that the Victos (which were a season old and at their end) stuck noticably better so I switched and ran them on front.

I ran a set of the R's as second hander's this past season, in the gambit of temperature change... And I posted some decent times... Wonder if this means that I'll be that much better next season with A's or other new R compound?
J/K rodneyTrue they are slippery for a longer period of time than the A's but, after they warm up they are still pretty effective, even used. As well I don't disagree about the A3s03's not being the better of first choice, they are an awesome tire.
I ran them till I corded a rear, and swapped it out with another used mule to finish my last 2 races this season.
I am going with Khumo Ecsta V700's next year. I want new tires with grip but, I can't currently afford the extra $$ that the Hoosier's go for. And I also feel I just don't need them now.
I do understand what you are getting at though.
A.
R compound Hoosier do not heat up fast enough for use in AX except if the track temp is over 110-120. Did the tires get warm?
Also when was the last time you checked alignment? I had similar problems on old Kumhos. Luckily I also had a new set of Hoosiers. Switching to the Hoosiers did not improve things much (still lots of understeer yet very easy to snap spin) Turns out the rear end had come out of alignment pretty badly ( I had 1/8" toe out on the left rear and 1/4" toe in on the right rear. Yet the car felt like it was tracking straight.) Just my experience.
