cruise control not working. Help!!
So my cruise control has completely stopped working in my 96 Civic EX. It used to be intermittent but recently it has not worked on. I have done some research and troubleshooting to no avail. The CRUISE light DOES come on on the button that is on the left hand side of the dash next to the steering wheel. The horn also works. I have looked in the fuse box to see if there was any fuses I could check but the diagram didnt really show anything that I recognized to be cruise control. Some were obviously not it but some were just weird abbreviations that I do not understand. I checked all the fuses under the hood and they were fine. I also check the vacuum and throttle lines and didnt see anything disconnected. I removed the line going from the cruise control actuator to the little black cylinder in the right rear of the engine bay(not sure what it is) and it made a popping noise like it released suction or something. Anyway I put it back and it didnt make a difference. So to sum it up: Cruise light works, nothing disconnected, but no cruise control. I am currently driving(well I'm riding shotgun right now) to Orlando from North GA(9 hour drive) and it sucks not having it. I would like to get it fixed for the drive back(10 days from now). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am mechanically inclined and have done timing belts, etc. but have never dealt with cruise control and my knowledge on the system is limited. ALSO the car is an AUTOMATIC. has 140k if that matters. thank you!

what does the brake light switch have to do with it? My girlfriend actually got pulled over a while back because the brakelight wasnt working. I wasnt at home when she got home and my neighbor(way more experienced with Hondas than I) fixed it. I'm not sure what he did but he said a part of the brake light switch broke. Could that be the issue?

so i looked at it and the actual switch part is fine it is the plastic grommet in the pedal that broke and is no longer there. my neighbor put a zip tie where the grommet was so that the brake light goes off. will the grommet fix the issue?

Yes the grommet will work. My 92 EG cruise control stopped working randomly. Found the rubber grommet on the clutch pedal that activates the cruise control had broken and fallen out. Went to Autozone and bought a pack of them for like 5 bucks in the "HELP" section, put the grommet in and bam, It worked. Then the rubber grommet on the brake pedal broke. When i replaced it then the brake lights worked and so did the cruise control again.

As soon as you touch the brake (or Clutch) the cruise has to disengage.
If not you would have hard time stopping since the cruise would fight the brakes
If the clutch pedal was pressed and the cruise stayed on the engine would over rev.

This is my second Honda. First was an 88 Accord. Did some stuff but nothing major. This one is a 1997 that I bought with 203k and a blown head gasket, and every panel dented for $500. Perfect DD. $700 later and a lot of time and got it running like a champ. Sorry to thread jack, but I'm sure I'll post around some.
