3rd, 4th and Reverse not engaging
Hello, Honda-Tech Users
I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX 1.6L (D16Z6) and well i believe i have a transmission issue. 1st and 2nd gear work as they should, but then when i put in 3rd or 4th gear the gears do not engage. It feels just like when my car is in neutral, it only revs up but no go. Also my Reverse doesnt want to go in at all. feels like there is something blocking. i went to 3 different shops and most of them inclined themselves to say the transmission's the issue. Any help will be useful.

The selector arms in the transmission control 1/2, 3/4, and 5/R. If it won't go into 3, 4, 5, or reverse, that sounds like a failed shift change holder assembly, which is part of the transmission. A new SCHA is pricey - you would be better served buying a used replacement transmission.
That is what i was thinking as well to just change out the trans. I live in Central Los Angeles, and about how much do you think i would find a used transmission for? what should be the most i pay for a used transmission, if you might know by any chance.
speedfactory makes their own selector holders. You need to find out if it's the holder or selector itself though.

As for price/value, there's a separate sticky for that. It depends heavily on market, but around here, a used D series trans usually goes for $100 in functional shape.
Thanks for all your help though guys, i am just going to get a transmission from my friend. hopefully that resolves my problem. every shop i have been to, they recommend me to just switch it out.

I was going to mention buying a new one and redoing yours yourself - it's the first piece when you open a transmission, and extremely easy to replace - but turns out that half of the necessary parts are discontinued.
