Default Air Bypass valve foam sponge ripped: AEM CAI

My brother has a AEM Air Bypass valve on his AEM Cold Air Intake. I noticed that the foam sponge is ripped all the way around. I was wondering if this is devastating for his engine, and he is literally taking in unfiltered air right now?

I might try to convince him to go back to a short ram air intake.

Wrong forum to post this in. However I would call AEM Intakes and get a new outer foam for the piece. Also in the meantime if you cut the pipe correctly you can replace it with a 3" long coupler.
