Default 1999 Civic DX hatch

Hey all. I've got a 1999 civic dx hatch with stock d16y7 and 5 speed tranny. Was wondering if I could swap 5th generation CX 5 speed transmission with my stock transmission? Thanks.

yes, I also think it is the exact same transmission since the CX also has a D16Y7

OP mentioned his is a DX. Slighter shorter gear ratio if it's like the 5th gen trannies. He should get a touch better gas mileage going to the CX tranny, once again assuming 6th gen stayed the same as 5th gen D series trannys. Different final drive between the CX and DX.

5th gen CX/VX are the same
6th gen DX/HX/LX/CX are the same

Oh nice, thanks for the table... Unlike some people I know, I enjoy being corrected being I almost always learn something new from it.

Only 92-95 do you have to check for ratio differences between the A000 stamped trannys. After 96 the D series became uniform for them thus your comment they be identicle.

So if the OP wants to improve fuel economy he needs to look for a 92-95 CX 5 spd.
