Most people have no idea that the Mainshaft 3rd Gear in the GSR/ITR/B16 Hydro/ and H22 comes apart in 3 pieces. Some will tell you that buying a new 3rd gear is expensive and most of the time requires you to buy a whole sleeve set along with it. We are now proud to offer a cost effective solution to repairing your 3rd gear synchromesh teeth.





I will advise that this should be done by a professional with proper safety equipment. Use of a hydraulic press is dangerous!

Here are a few steps to help understand how the gear comes apart

You will need a suitable press to do this with ease

When pressing on the new piece it is important to line the tabs on the center washer


Make sure to align the center teeth before pressing. If you spin the top half slightly...you will feel the teeth line up. Press down until they are mated and you are done! Enjoy!

Thanks James It's always nice to see cost effective solutions come on the scene. The 3rd gear grind is a common problem for B-series owners and unfortunately it can be expensive to fix.

Do you know what parts are needed? Typically it is the 5th gear and 5th gear sleeve that need replacement. Please contact me when you know what it is that is needed. I will be happy to help you out.

 

They are not fun to get apart, but I harvested a few of these from 3rd gear sets that have been sheared. I was wondering when they would be available separately.

 

If you have access to a press it is fairly easy to take the gear apart

 

I just ordered a mfactory diff and bseries carbon master kit from synchotech all I am needing is the speedfactory sch and my trans is done!
