Hi guys. I'm quite excited to be a member here and to have my Honda, its a little 91 Accord with 190k miles on it. I don't drive it much but would love to work on it myself. The check engine light came on after some time the car had displayed a burnt tail light which I haven't fixed. Now last weekend it snowed and I went out to help a friend who was stuck out on the highway. I used my car to push hers up a steep slope for about five minutes of high revving after which I began smelling something like burning inside my car. I stil smell it when I revv. Now when I start my car, it idles at first at about 1500 rpm and then falls as the car warms up.

Again, I noticed that when driving, and when I shift into the 2nd and 3rd gear, the car lurches when I press the accelerator, for reasons unknown to me. When I revv also I notice that the engine shakes its like it first breathes then revs making it look like its revving twice in quick successions.

I had it serviced in August but it was for State inspection and the guys did what needed to be done. As for the check engine light, I used a money clip to check and the car blinked 9 times. Does anyone know what that means?

Your car is going to idle higher from a cold start until the car warms up, which it will then idle regular. Completely normal operation.

For the check engine code, that sensor is inside the distributor. If you got a junkyard nearby, you can try to pull another distributor from any 90-91 accord and see if that fixes it.

You will need to redo your ignition timing by using a timing gun afterwards. There are howto's on how to set your ignition timing on youtube.

I'm much obliged for your responses. I watched the video to redo the ignition timing and I called a few junkyards for the distributor am going to get it from one of them.

And the car is manual.
