Buying used rims...
Hey guys, been shopping around, looking at used rims. Planning to spend around 500. I have reservations about buying used rims, mainly about fatigue. I know a bicycle frame over time suffers from fatigue, basically the metal stretches and looses strength and form. Does this concern apply to rims? In the end will I be losing $ instead of saving it?
I have my eyes on a set of Hart cpf, which have been used on a DD.

Everything exposed to mechanical forces sees stresses. If designed well, expected stresses will be compensated for in the material selection and structural aspects.
It's design and how the wheel has been used are things to consider.
I wouldn't expect a car driven on the street with a basically stock engine to ever push the limits of wheels, but I would be a little cautious on high hp drag car or a decent road race/auto-Xed car.
Even reputable brands like Mugen make compromising design flaws.

$500 for rims? Dang. You can buy new rims for that price. I'd probably just jack some decent looking factory rims off of something at the yard, clean them up and buy tires. I bought new rims and tires onlines, delivered to my door, for less than $500.
Thanks for the food for thought guys. I'll post pics after I pull the trigger. I've saved rims for last, although is there really such a thing as Last when it comes to these things?
Happy Holidays.

There is a last thing, the compactor. But I personally bought rims and tires fairly early. I had stock steelies with worn out tires originally.
Sprint Hart CPF's are extremely light forged wheels (10-11 lbs each vs GSR blades at 16 is lbs If my memory serves me right) and are becoming harder and harder to find in decent shape. I own a set of them in 4x114.3 myself. In a good economy a clean set will run you about $700-1400, so $500 is one hell of a deal. Just make sure they are real and not rotas with stickers. It should have "hart ssf" stamped into it. Does 20 lbs of weight savings mean that much to you? Being NA it does to me.

Big things to look for are damage to the hub bore or wheel lugs if aftermarket. Sometimes people beat up their hubs or use the wrong lugs. I've bought many used wheel sets with no problems so far. Even curb rash can be cleaned up to a degree.
