Default transmission help, needed

my brother has a 96 DX accord and the auto 'went-out' yesterday, in gear it just kept revving and wouldn't grab a gear, I have a couple questions, 1) what could be causing this 2) if the tranny is dead, will an older autobox from a 90-93 F22 work in a 94-97 F22 3) anybody w/a swap have an old motor in the corner of your garage w/a tranny for sale....

thanks

To answer one part of the question here you go... I used to work at import auto salvage and we would sell 94-97 automatics to people with 90-93 cars. Trick was you had to use the flexplate off of the 94-97 accord and not the older one. So in other words you should be able to use the older trans with the 1994-1997 flexplate. Just be sure to use the newer flexplate. I know that sounds weird but it is right...
