Default shorter shift lever = shorter shift throw..... need a quick answer!!

As the topic says, lets say you cut your shift lever without adding a short throw adapter (Preludes) wouldn't your throw actually be longer due to the fact that you're closer to the pivot point??

maybe a lil bit. If you want a short throw adapter, OBX has one for about $40 for the 4th Gen

I think your "throw" (the distance it takes to change gears.) would be the same. but the distance your hand travels is less, or are these the same (damn confused myself now.)
try setting up a triangle, and change one of the legs length, then use Sin, Cos, Tan etc...or if its a right triangle use pythagorean theorem..

The degrees of the angle remain the same no matter what the length of the leg..the only thing that changes is the hypotonouse...

not sure which to use to calculate throw..Hyp, or degrees.

If anyon can correct me please do...Im confused now..

My friend with a 5th gen thinks that this will make it shorter, but I don't think it would.

Wouldn't it be similar to a wrench? The longer the wrench arm the easier it is to use.... the shorter the arm and more effort is needed.

I think it would work if he also used an adapter, but cutting the stock lever seems to be a really stupid idea to me. Anyone else have any thoughts or any links to an answer?

shortening the rod will reduce the throw

shortening the rod will decrease leverage so about .5% more energy will be needed to move the lever...not even noticable.

i should know the answers to this since i just designed a full replacement short shifter for 4gen ludes!

Yes...longer would be easier, but require more time to move that distance.
