Help/ freshly built engine engine start up? breaking in??
okay this is my first engine build. d16z6 vitara 75.5mm,eagle,h beam rods.
the motor is stock with slightly low compression. my question is if i install the motor whats the good way to properly break in the engine.
a mechanic told me that i first needed to.
add/fluids engine oil with oil filter.
disable the ignition system electrical connector plugs.
remove spark plugs, fuel injectors, and crank it. for oil pressure. ? i forgot how long. build oil pressure. crank it over couple times.
then plug everything back ignition, spark plugs, and fuel.
start it up.
okay if i start it up and it starts up.
do i need to run my engine for like ten minutes.
and check timing right then while its warming up.
top off coolant etc.
turn off engine. drain oil and filter after ten minutes is run.
add engine oil/filter second time and let it run until operating temperature
test drive steady driving etc?
please let me know if this is properly way to break in my motor please help me thanks.

Hi,
I suggest you do the following:
You must run the engine in with 30w oil and it needs to be run with a AFR or 13.0 or leaner under light load to allow the rings to seat up. DO NOT start the engine and idle it. Fire the engine and run it at 2,000 to 2,500 till it's up to operating temps. Once it's up to temp go drive it from 2,000 to 4,000 under mild load allowing the engine to decel in gear. Once this has been done 4-6 times drain the oil and cut the filter open to check for debris.
Once you have done the above and changed oil & filter.
1> Vary rpms by letting the engine decelerate on its own then accelerate up to about 5k rpm
2> Do this in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear for 15-20 mins
3> You dont want to keep the rpms at one spot for a lengthy period of time.
4> Gradually take the rpms up higher 6k and 7k rpms.
5> Your air fuel at wide open throttle should range between 12.5 - 13.3. I've seen the best results at 13.2-13.3 A/F for N/A cars.
6> Try setting idle AFR to 14.5:1 that is optimum.
Hope this helps.

Oh Magnectic oil drain plug works really good if u haven't got one I suggest u get one, it'll save ur motor from all those metals shavings from messing up ur newly built motor.
Before starting... spin the motor over without sparkplugs and the ECU fuse out (so the fuel pump doesnt come on) until you get oil pressure.
Check for any fluid leaks.
Put in sparkplugs and ECU fuse.
If your ECU is still stock map... use the stock injectors during break in. Then after break in... change to whatever injectors your going to use immediately before tuning.
Start the car up and hold/vary rpms between 1500-2500 rpm for about 15min.
Turn off car and let it cool down.
After the car is completely cooled off start it up again and hold/vary rpms between 1500-3500 rpm for 15min.
Change the oil and filter after the car has cooled off.
Check for any fluid leaks.
Put in sparkplugs and ECU fuse.

i will sure try this method. also a teacher told me to run the engine like this.
okay i got another question. the vx motor is 5 wire o2 sensor. and i got the p28 ecu manual for it. if i use the p28 do i have to convert the 5 wire to the 4 wire ecu? i already have the o2 sensor that came with the motor. but the 4 wire is diffrent and the original ecu is only like 5 wires?
is that necessary if im going to swap the z6 motor in?
how do i do the o2 sensor conversion.
