CRX tips
Don't buy the first one you see. You should take your time to find a good one. The season effects the prices dramatically.
Focus on buying on with items you can fix.
Do you know body work? Look for one with a good engine then.
Do you know mechanics? Look for one with a good body.

I've seen people buy mint EFs for $500 because the timing belt snapped and the owner couldn't see it or figure it out. I've seen people get cars for free because of rusted floor pans. You gotta hunt the deal. It's out there.

lol yup! got mine unmolested! and thanks guys i appreciate it. My family owns a shops so I am trying to find one with either motor work needing to be done or just like front end damage. I am still on the hunt for one and looking every where haha. Just gotta find one and really put some time into it and appreciate it.
If you plan on swapping motors get a standard, and either a HF or SI. Dx comes with dual point fuel injection (2 injectors) and requires more wiring for a swap.
Having owned 2 of them, find a rust free car without the sunroof. Preferably with stock wiring harness as guys tend to hack them up. An 88-89 HF would be ideal, but any manual crx is a winner.
If any of you guys see any projects on here or anywhere on one let me know haha. I want one so bad but everyone's pricing them for like 3500+ and I'm looking for one for cheap to fix up like one with a snapped timing belt or something.
Everyone seems to be giving pretty good advise. Look for minimal rust, no broken glass, and make sure it has all the little bits, door trim, full interior, not completely slathered in bondo. Basically look at my build thread and get the exact opposite. Lol
Good luck!
Good luck!
What is your price point?
Only the 90-91s came with rear disc brakes. I've owned 4 EF hatchback SIs and this is my second '90 CRX Si.
I prefer the 90-91s over the 88-89s but it is a personal preference.
No rust on the body, everything else is downhill.

i really want a black si lol and i mean im looking to spend up to 3 grand for one, i want a project so i can spend less and have fun with it but i would LOVE a black SI. I just want a 88-91 in general and with several people saying different point of views and nothing but good things about all of them then it doesnt really matter to me hah
yours is CLEAN too. I love it man. jealous lol.
Thank you.
Have you joined CRXCOMMUNITY yet? If not, I would consider it!
When I started looking for a CRX, I joined the forums and introduced myself as the new lame noob wanting a CRX but currently did not have one. THen in the signature, I added a blurb on how I was looking for a 1990 Y-49 CRX SI. I was active on the forums so that signature was seen by all.
One evening, Dave (my CRX's PO) contacted my asking if I would be interested in purchasing his 1990 Y-49 CRX Si. I said sure, lets talk. So after about 2 weeks of PMs and then the pictures came, I was hooked. I flew a buddy and me up to Northern California, bought the CRX and drove it back to Phoenix. (10 hours)
So in essence, the car found ME. Talk about luck!
So... If you plan on getting a CRX Si, start your active search for a clean car that is functioning. You have $3k, that should get you into the game. But I would also consider casting a passive net, via a signature, on how you are looking for a clean CRX Si to buy. Maybe the seller will find you.
Can't hurt. And yes, these little guys are awesome. Easy to work on, cheap and you can really light things up when in a "spirited" driving mood. At ~2,100lbs, it is easy to get them to move quickly. CRXCOMMUNITY is a pretty good group of guys/gals.

^ He nailed it. You would be suprised how often things will find you. And that last part hits the nail on the head. My hatch is rated at 1900~ish from the factory. 70 HP feels like a lot more in something that light weight.
