1998 gsr sputters at low RPM while driving *HELP*
Hi,
So couple weeks ago my teggy started acting up at low rpm while gasing the pedal:
Facts:
1998 gsr
267k miles
no rebuilts all orginal
I changed the spark plugs right after i noticed it and it helped.
rotor changed 7/12
distrib cap changed 7/12
spark plug wires changed 7/12
oil changed, cleaned air filter.
The little sputter happens just ocasionally, not all the time and it only happens when I'm in gear (usually 3rd, 4th or 5th gear at 1-2k rpm's and gasing it). The car would jolt a little then as soon as it gets out of the 2k rpm band, it runs just fine. The idle is fine and when gasing it while idle, it is smooth. Maybe vaccum leak? Distrib cap? or rotor? (I changed cap and roter last year). hmmphh? anything else? Help?

Replace fuel filter, and try adjusting the TPS. If you have a DVOM and some t-pins it's very easy to check and adjust. But before touching it, just check the readings. Should be .48 at closed and 4.5 at WOT
As mentioned, fuel filter and just because, redo your main grounds, DO NOT just eyeball them, disconnect/clean/reconnect the batt. to chassis and chassis to engine grounds.
Do the ground then the filter and then the TPS, or in any order to see which if any of them fix the problem. 94

4th 5th at 2k rpm, won't that's Boggs or sputter? Anyways, like. That they said, check your grounds and sensors on your manifold, alternator? Something is not getting enough power.
Your fuel issue, [lean] can be as simple as low fuel pressure because of a bad fuel filter, FPR, bad fuel pump, bad PGM-FI Main Relay, on the rich side it may be as simple as a bad ECT sensor.
As mentioned, pull the cat and see if engine will run, check the fuel pressure. 94

I had the same issue my negative cable that was connected to the battery was not properly grounded. But as stated check fuel filter or while the car is running and pull each injector clip one by one to see if their working properly.
I think the issue is the fuel filter since I haven't changed it since 140k miles already, and who knows if the previous owner changed it. I bought a new one today and tried to change it but the bolts are effing tight. The top bolt (17MM) I got off but the bottom one (14MM), i can't get off. Is to loosen it turning towards passenger side? I'm not sure since the bolt is ambigious. Anyone? It lmight be the fuel filter since it looks original (267k miles nows) lol
