Default Dropping Trans

My last thread was about my brothers 95 Accord having Auto tranny issues, We got pretty lucky and found a 96 Tranny with 56K miles on it.

I have dropped many transmission in my time but all on old American cars. Is there any typical tricks or special concerns I should look for or take into consideration?

Also to fill to capacity the tranny takes 5 or 6 quarts? An only Honda oil correct?

I don't think I ever did an Accord specifically, but on most Hondas one starter bolt needs to come out as it threads into the engine block (it's the long one, usually the bottom IIRC) and there's generally one bell housing bolt that goes in from the back IE engine side that's easy to miss.

What are you working on? I learned the hard way to drop the subframe on early 90s hondas. Crx/civic/accord. Only on a 5 speed can you weasle it out without droping the subframe, but I would anyway.

I've never dropped the subframe on a '92 - '00 Civic to drop a trans, and I have done a few automatics. I never pulled a trans on an Accord, but I've never heard of anyone having to drop the subframe either. The newer stuff, yes definitely.

You should consider flushing the trans cooler out if you can and also installing an inline filter so that your "new" trans has the best chance at living a long life.
